This brings to mind something my sister told me earlier today. She's a freshman in high school and is only now really comfortable with the fact that I'm gay. When she was younger she just sort of ignored it, and the rest of my family decided it would be best to let her be and just wait for her to get used to the idea, which she is now. A large part of why she is getting used to it is that she now has a gay friend. I forget his name at the moment, but we were talking on the phone earlier and she told me his mother found out he was gay and grounded him for a month. Now I would be upset by this if it weren't so completely and utterly absurd. I couldn't help but laugh at the stupidity of the very concept. I mean grounded for a month. That's like grounding you for having brown hair or something, at least with the therapy as evil and vile as it is you can at least see the warped little conservative's mind go from point A to B to C, even if you know they aren't going to make it to the end of the alphabet, I just can't find the paths between letters on this one. I mean grounded, what the hell is the point. What's more he's not allowed to watch any Bravo or Trading Spaces anymore. I mean what kind of special pills are his mother taking? I just had to rant about this one and this seemed like a somewhat appropriate thread.

Haha!!

"Go to your room, Johnny, and don't you dare come out til you're straight!"

Freakin' hilarious.

I'm picturing this poor kid with a copy of David Sedaris tucked inside the covers of a book by Hemingway or something.

As a parent, I know that grounding a kid is a knee-jerk reaction when you can't think of anything better. I truly feel sorry for the kid and the parent. Yes, grounding your child for being gay ranks in the top 5 Stupid Moves category, but I've personally seen parents come around after the shock has worn off.

But taking away Trading Spaces? That's just evil!

You know, reading that just makes me sick.

I have a very close person in my life who was given shock therapy, i mean, mental. It has affected his life, his ability to retain memories, massively. His family thought he was sick, mentally ill, when they realized he was gay.

How some one could do that to their child is beyond me. And sometimes i just have urges to be sick when i think of how intolerant so many people are.

Its not like gay or lesbian people in a comunity is a NEW thing. Its just more talked about in this day and age.

Ick, i dunno, just doesnt make much sense to me, i guess.
