Two questions, if our resident archivist had it all going, then I would not need to ask, so excuse redundancy in these two questions:

I know VB posted a couple of 80's links, and I have been able to find just about any book ever written in 1980, EXCEPT the most erotically controversial. Any ideas?

Also, in Romeo and Juliette, by Shakespeare .. (been too long since I pretty well was forced to memorize it) but is there diologue by Romeo to Juliette that anyone recalls in that play might be considered exceptionally risque', perhaps almost pornographic?

Thanks.

Thanks to the sweetness of Ms. Hynde, I have, "I am no pilot; yet, wert thou as far as that vast shore wash'd with the farthest sea, I would adventure for such merchandise."

Probably as close as I will get. And thanks Sam, mucho.

Now about 1980? Was there anything sexy in literature? Edited to add: because we know everything else sucked, therefore surely .... :D

Sure after I go and find this:

more R&J

Did you google for 80's trash novels? I'm sure Jackie Collins was scribbling something then.

I appreciate it, I DO!  No! Trash and Shakespeare don't mix. Or ... do they?

Princess, what is it exactly that you are looking for in literature circa 1980?

Other than the fact that they are both underage, I can't recall anything controversial. The 3-way with Mercutio is implicit, because it happens off-stage. There is that one part where Juliet compliments Mercutio on "yon package," but most people seem to think she's referring to a wedding gift.

The Nurse gets all the bawdy lines, she seems to be some sort of voyeur, getting vicarious thrills from hearing about Juliet's liasons. She's generally staged as a BBW.

With deadlines gone and a new one on, I have a story I need to write, and its my take on MILF. The sort of, standing hook is a bunch of young romeo's after their friends mothers ... one is into literature, thats his character, so was looking at a line that is verging on sexuality. I think the one I quoted is the best I will find from Romeo in that play in the context of him coming out of the pool to get her another drink ... perhaps there are others. I am still open.

Still Sher, you or VB MUST be able to answer the question of what was erotic and risque' in 1980? Both of you have read enough. :D

SAM: I'd rather someone else do it ;)

How about V.C. Andrews? Half the girls I knew were reading Flowers in the Attic and My Sweet Audrina back then ... me, too, I'm shamed to admit ...

Judy Blume's Forever might've come out around then, too, shocking a generation of moms who didn't pre-read it before handing it over to their teenage daughters. We're all expecting Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret; it was a hell of an eye opener ;)

I led a sheltered life up until my divorce. I can tell you what was cheesy in the 80's, but erotic and risque didn't exist on my planet back then.

A thought:

Porn movies on videotape would have been a fairly recent thing, wouldn't they? Until the 80s, when VCRs were common, watching movies at home was a lot of work.

I remember seeing a movie set in the 60s where men were watching "stag films" on a film reel with a projector. The good ol' VCR must have been a major breakthrough for the connoisseurs of dirty movies.

LOL, yes I see, you good Rosary girl, say your prayers, you'll need them ;) AND OH I DO recall the old black and whites. Turned me off of porn for years!

Now get with the program, and give me porn! Litographers my ass!

CharleyH,

Most Shakespearian plays have some risque lines where they are playing to the pit, but for something less obscure how about Romeo & Juliet in the New Millennium

I don't know what you are looking for in the 80's, but does 1980's Lifestyle and Fashion History help?

Got my Shakespeare from Lauren, but need an idea on risque'. Gay Telese is a good name, obviosly, but a sexy book? Thanks for the link again VB

Maybe so, but you can't project it onto the building behind the dorm and give it the scope of a drive-in. :D

"Class" with Jacqueline Bisset as the older woman who becomes a young man's first sexual encounter of note...and turns out to be his roommate's mother.

(EDITED BIT) from 1983
