🧘🏼‍♂️🤾🏻‍♀️Getting Sweaty Again: The 3rd Circuit 🚴🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♀️

Interesting. I did the couch25k program, and intervals are a part of that. But you moved to a point where you ran continuously. So I have always been under the impression that to benefit from a run one should not stop to walk, ie one shoudl maintain the running pace continuously.
Good morning.... Don't let that outdated thing stop you. I know it's a. Extreme version but think of it this way.... Do you think I run all 200+ miles in a race? No way...lots of walking/power hiking. You do what your body let's you do. Moving is moving is healthy is good for you and will help....IF you let it
I don't deny it's benefits, but just don't connect with it

That nothing but the best advise I have heard in a long time!

- I have tried several running shoes as well, and always, always I end up with the same brand in the end (Kayano from ASICS). So now I just buy 2-3 news pairs every year.. as soon as they get on sale! 😆

Finding a shoe that fits, that is almost half of the victory (then comes the socks.. do not get me started! 🙈).
Ohhhh girl...socks!! 😂 Now I spend way way too much time on socks for my races....compressions socks, toe socks, wool socks, thin socks, thick socks, etc etc blah blah 😂

I swear... Socks, a fucking maddening science!!

Yes.. compression, toe socks.. wool.. over ankle or under? Extra cushion... Blah.. Blah..😂😂😂

I have boxes filled with socks!! 🙈😂
Mines a full drawer so totally get it... Lol.

Do you like the toe socks? How has that gone? I tried them at my yoga retreat and I hated them.

They take getting used to.... I don't wear them all the time, but for races I do to help cut down on blisters. As you can imagine ..... Blisters are a huge issue when you run/walk/hike in all weather outside for multiple days. Once I got used to them it isn't as ....weird I guess?

Thanks.

So what would be a good length for a cardio session in this fashion? When i was running it was about 20-25 minutes. They say you should do about 75 minutes of vigourous activity a week. Dunno how accurate that is

That is all.. back to socks being a frustrating science!

You want them to:
  • Fit snuggly, excess fabric will create blisters and hotspots.
  • Be loose enough so that they do not "strangle" your calfs.
  • The fabric should wick away sweat, and yet have the right thickness/thinness.
  • The stitching.. oh, a pet peeve of mine! 😳
  • .... And the list goes on...
The conclusion is: I really do like toe socks! They are kinda brilliant, I even swear to them on days when I know that I will be walking a lot ( > 13 km).
But, I also tend to bring extra socks with me. I like clean and fresh socks, and I like not having blisters.

Buuuuuuut!! There are so many absolutely AWFUL socks out there! And I cannot stand wearing socks that does not fit just right.

So far, I have only found one brand that I like (and where there size interval actually fits my feet!).

It has not exactly been the cheapest or easiest quest, luckily my youngest daughter have the same size foot as I have - and like some (not all) of the socks I have tried and discarded. 🙈😆

Well, I kinda like wearing toe socks, they are great for the mobility of the forefoot and toes, helps giving me a better grip when running, and strangely - much less shin splints! And my Achilles tendon loves them, 🤩

But.. gosh, it is a jungle, and you need to try the socks.. Even those that feels good from the get go - you need to know how they feel after a short 5 km run at least!! 😅

Thanks.

Who are "they"? 🙈

The official Danish Health Board (right under the government) recommends 30 minutes daily vigorous cardio activity.

I think you will find many, many different recommandations, the most important is simply to be active, if that is going for a walk - then perfect!!

You should do what you can do, the moment you start to read all those different things that "they" say, you might end up more stressed and confused, than you would have if you just did what you were able to do.

Thanks for the replies.

I try to get a walk in a day. A few times a day. I do some cardio from youtube but it's a bit hit and miss tbh. I do some yoga stretches. The easy ones. No headstands or inverse postures. I ought do more really

It sounds as if you are doing just fine!

Add on and do more, if it feels right (remember, sometimes working out is uncomfortable, and that is okay! We do not get stronger if we never push ourselves into that uncomfortable zone, but there is a fine line between holding back and protecting yourself and being lazy 😉, it is healthy to protect yourself - but just sometimes.. Try to push a little harder!)

If you want some "easy" and rather efficient cardio, that you can do everywhere?

Mountain climbers. You do not need any equipment, you can do them everywhere, and they are extremely good for you.

This has probably been discussed before..but here we go..

Anyone have any running shoes that they swear by? Only kicker..I have high arches so arch support needs to be superior.

Right now I have Brooks Glycerin StealthFit 21's and I love them, but I need a new pair and want to try something different.
Like others have mentioned, it is definitely a preference thing. But the other piece of advice I’d offer is to go to a running shoe store that actually measures or monitors your stride and step. This was a huge help for me. They were able to make helpful suggestions then based on what they saw and I felt.

Figure out where the college or high school athletes are going for their shoes and go there. Seemed to help me out a ton.

I’ve had Brooks, ASICS, Saucony, and adidas shoes I’ve loved running in. Oh and even New Balance. I won’t lie though, I enjoy shopping for shoes. 👟 🫣

Cat is completely right. Plenty of simple and basic options that don’t require much equipment, if any.
Body weight exercises are huge. Squats, pushups, lunges, planks, burpees, dips. All excellent moves.
(Oh and it had been fun following along on the sock journey. Even when you’ve modeled them for us. 🤣)

You can absolutely burn fat with
walking. @Dayhoosier gave some great suggestions on how to same it work best.

@Lmizzler and @Dayhoosier

Yup, me too! I could easily get all nerdy and talk about the importance of the right stitching in compression clothing.. But also the completely opposite direction: how I would love for exercising, training.. Working out, whatever you call it, how I want to de-mystify it, making it easy accessable and uncomplicated.

When you can do a good session of body weight exercises in your bedroom/living-room, working up a good sweat and feel your heart beat.

Versus

The technical aspects of equipment, logistics and how to find the time for the things we like to do! 🙈😆

Yeah.. Well, this thread is an absolute favourite of mine.

.... So much, that I model my toe socks here.. 😂

Thanks. What i do isn't partcularly strenusou though. I will try and add a backpack i think to a 30 minute walk

Sweaters-
When you’re sore after a workout, do you whine? Grin and bear it? Take Advil? Or grunt about how “Pain is just weakness leaving the body”? Something else entirely?
I kinda just walk around like an old man and tell people I'm fine when they ask. If you're doing it right, it's supposed to hurt at least a little.

I wear mostly neutral shoes, so I'm unsure I could recommend a specific model, but I'm a New Balance guy. They just fit consistently well and are always comfortable.

Best thing to do is go to a local specialized running store. Even if you're using them for walking/day to day, they'll have the knowledge to get you in something that works for you.

I have never been so grateful to work out at home as I am today... I was on my last set of weighted sit-ups and was struggling. I dug deep and managed the last rep only to rip the biggest of atomic farts as I touched chest to knees. 😱😱😱
Totally have had similar thoughts.

How is it possible to do any ab work without farting at least once!
