🧘🏼‍♂️🤾🏻‍♀️Getting Sweaty Again: The 3rd Circuit 🚴🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♀️

Spring is almost here, and what better way to celebrate, than adding a new fun feature to your workout routine?! 🥰🥳

So, I just bought a vibration plate.. And gosh, I felt kinda like a jello figurine.. 🙈 It is quite fascinating really, I mean; I never realised just how much my body could wobble, wiggle, and jiggle!!

It is not that I have any grand or amazing hopes, I do not expect this Jiggly-Wiggly plate to be some sort of Deux ex machina, and suddenly be the magical game changer in my workout routine.

I just wanted to try something new, and as my PT recommended it strongly, then who am I to lose out on a fun new experience?

So.. the big question: Did it make me laugh? Oh yes!! 😁🌞

Have a wonderful Monday everyone.

I'll be interested to hear an update from you in a few months as to its effectiveness.

I may not go all the way, and plot in a dedicated Excell document and do all the graphs. 📈📊

But; weekly pictures, tight PT program, special attention towards targeted areas..

Yup that is going to happen.

Some of my goals are: better balance, strengthening the inner core and loosening my right hip/obliges, endurance training, helping me find my inner "gyroscope", alleviate some lower back pain (yay, getting older..) and so on.

Again, I do not expect this to be a quick "fix all" cure. After all, I am 41 and still insisting on running 3 times a week, doing daily barre training and so on. I know that I have stupidly high expectations of myself. 😅

But there are some things, for which I would go very far in my pursuit of improvement.

Alleviating pain, inner gyroscope, and a slight case of osteoporosis.

So I am keeping my fingers crossed!! 🤞🏻

And if it does not work.. it is still going to be silly fun! And that might be the most important factor! 🥰🎉

This all sounds amazing, but this part world new my favourite. Stretching is my least favourite thing to do after exercise (yet so important), someone helping (forcing lol) me sounds amazing.
Yes! I had a choice between massage and assisted stretching so I picked the stretching because I also do not like to stretch. I usually skip it before and/or after a workout because I just want to get to it or be done with it and move on. So, here’s how it went.

I got on the table. I was asked to lie down on my back and then would I rather work on my lower or upper body.

Hmm. I had no idea.

Let’s go withhhhh … ummm… lower body because , well, idk. My hips can be sore? And my knees sometimes hurt? Oh for fuck sake I have no idea. So I picked lower body. Right. So she moved to the bottom of the table and started on my left side, lifting my legs, stretching my calves, my hamstrings, my hips, even my lower back and she kept asking me if this was too much, and the whole time, it was totally fine. I felt great. No problem. I was feeling super fit and flexible. Awesome!

So when she offered to do my right side, I was totally on board. Well, that didn’t go so well. I wasn’t nearly as flexible on my right side as I was on my left. I got to thinking why, and I think that it’s because I do more with my right side: I carry my work bag on my right side, etc., and I overcompensate. I don’t do everything equally and it was apparent during this session. My ego was a little more bruised after the second session.

I’m really glad that I chose the assisted stretching session. I feel that I can learn from it.

Don't let it bruise your ego, totally natural/normal. Every time I get a massage we "laugh" (I cry mostly) how much worse my right is to my left.

This sounds amazing. I'd love to tell you it will inspire me to stretch more, but that's doubtful. 😂

So it's been a few weeks.
I've had a couple of gym sessions and done a couple of classes. Not as many as I would like and that's because of my knee.
I have arthritis and I found that going on the exercise bikes and rowing machines cause a lot of pain which then affects the rest of my time there and also leaves me wincing the next day too.
Similar story with the pilates stretch class. I'm able to do most of it but when it comes to doing stretches on our hands and knees I have to sit them out.
I spoke to a GP today over the phone and he recommends having a session with a personal trainer - which I'd have to pay extra for but never mind - to show me what I can be doing to make the most of my time there without hurting myself.
He's also prescribing me some weight loss medication so that and the gym combined should really help me get into a better place.

I have found lots of things I like though. The arm cycle is fun and the different weight machines have been good too. I'm still on the low weights but I'll soon be super buff! (a super buff marshmallow anyway!😁)

Keep at it Rosie. There are going to be those set backs and injuries. The key is to know when to keep pushing and know when to pull back. Find modifications to exercises whenever you can.
Modifications aren't a bad thing. It's just a way to do that exercise as best as possible for your circumstance and your body. 💪

Yes this is what I'm wanting to investigate.
I'm in tomorrow for pilates and I'll ask about getting some advice on the gym machines while I'm there. There'll be a way that works best for me so I can still keep trying to get fitter and the people there will hopefully know where I should start

@RosewoodTulip Im so glad that you talked with your GP. I like the suggestions that they gave you. As you work with a trainer. Even just once or twice, they’ll give you the correct form, and it makes all the difference in the world. Something as small as putting my weight on my heel rather than on the ball of my foot meant the difference between knee pain and no knee pain. Or if I extended my knee beyond my toe on a lunge, that hurt, but if I was able to watch what I was doing and keep my knee from going beyond my toe, I was good. Those suggestions helped me so much.

Also the weight loss medications! There are some that work wonders these days. Not only with weight, but with blood pressure and a whole bunch of other weight related health issues. It sounds like you’ve really taken a HUGE step, and that’s really awesome. 🩷

Is exercising contagious?

If so, I'll just hang here for a while.
I actually kind of believe it is!!! And I love how this thread seems to be really having a Renaissance. I've even thought about whether or not I'll post in here during my upcoming race..... So yes hang out ..work out with us. Brag about yourself when you kick ass or even when you take a baby step!!

I never even thought about things like foot positioning so that's all really encouraging cos I really want to do the cardio stuff as well as work on flexibility and strength.
And yeah my bp is high so anything that gets that down is great! I'm not expecting to be slim - because even at my most active I never have been - but any improvement will be a bonus!
