🏡PLP's Bazaar of the Bizarre: A Study Hall for the Deviant and Delightful

Here’s another 1 I love, by Berthe Morisot, a woman who mostly painted women. It reminds me a bit of the Degas dancers waiting in the wings, but goes deeper. It’s almost voyeuristic in how it shows a quiet moment of a woman getting ready for the day. It’s pretty, yet somehow a little sad and vulnerable as well…like every woman who is told how pretty they are, but doesn’t quite believe it in those moments she’s alone with her own reflection. Nevertheless, she is resigned to the routine of keeping up appearances and working with what she has anyway.

I would have sworn that was a Degas if you hadn't told me.

It does look a lot like a Degas, both in style and subject. The style is very similar to his ballerina paintings, and he also did many paintings of women bathing that were even more voyeuristic that this. They weren’t my favorite though, as they tended to have thicker outlines, darker colors, and be frozen in awkward, unflattering positions.

For artists / art? It's so hard to pick. But, let me throw a curveball - if you don't know him, look up the work of Bill Sienkiewicz. The man is off the chain insanely skilled, incredibly imaginative in how he sees things, flexible and capable in a wild variety of styles.

Edmund Blair Leighton?
When I saw his 'Godspeed' in a book I was quite young and a little bit stunned that it was a painting.
Ah, young Alpine.
Oof, I don't know if it's because I'm already a little emotional today but that one hit. ❤️
Thank you for sharing it.

Thanks everyone who's shared art and their quiz results. It's been so interesting and helpful. I hope I'll have more interesting topics to bring you soon. But there will probably be more filth in between. 🤷‍♀️

I'll let you know what grade I make. ;)
Yay filth!
