I will never forget, and always treasure the memory of, my father's face when I sang out with gusto, "I done tol' you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best there's ever been" at a gas station when I was about 8 years old. Such a look of shock mixed with pride.

My dad and I have a regular game of “Name that tune” where my mom plays DJ and picks random songs from YouTube and we have to guess the name and artist. Embarrassingly, and much to my mother’s delight, we both bomb on this one quite regularly when the song starts we both just start throwing out lyrics and have to get halfway through before I finally guess it while she’s over there saying “Every. Single. Time!”

Embarrassingly, and much to my mother’s delight, we both bomb on this one quite regularly when the song starts we both just start throwing out lyrics and have to get halfway through before I finally guess it while she’s over there saying “Every. Single. Time!”

Both their lives changed completely on the 9th of November 1989. They didn't know each other then. This happened 6 weeks later on a train to Berlin to see the Hoff live on New year's Eve.

This song in particular was the song I learned to do the stroll to. Totally brings back memories of my parents before they split up, and crazy ants and uncles and siblings and cousins, dancing to crazy 50s stuff after dinner on Sunday nights.

Because this was going through my head earlier, I actually put it on as I did a strip tease and jumped in the pool this morning naked. Mrs wonderer didn’t know to shit, go blind, laugh or cry.

My dad loved James Bond movies. Saw so many w him. The night before he died, a James Bond marathon was on tv. Ironically, To Live and Let Die was on - he was barely conscious… but I will never forget sharing that moment with him.
