Day 25: A song from when you were in high school

I was torn seeing this prompt because there were so many great choices but I also hate the reminder of how old I am.
This song captures the absolute greatness that is Elvis Costello. The music, the lyrics, the way he expresses himself. I love this song.

I was sitting on the fire escape two floors above my apartment. It was cold, and it was raining. My right hand hurt, and was bloody. And this was playing out someone's window, really loud. It didn't influence the decision, but it was more the soundtrack to it.

See, there was this girl. Every great story starts that way. And we had been together a while, long enough to get serious. Long enough that when she decided she was going to move to Chicago, I was easy to convince to go with her. Love? I don't know. Something like it, more than infatuation less than being "true love," but on that same windy road. We had been in Chicago three months, and we were heading into winter, but I was happy for the first time in a long time. Money was tight, I was working hard, but I was happy. Really happy.

The elevator was out, so I took the stairs down. At the L station, I realized I had forgotten my book. It took me 45 minutes to get to work, too long without a book, and I was running way ahead, so I walked back. Up the stairs. Into the apartment. And to the door to our bedroom, where I saw her getting fucked by Tom, the next door neighbor with a wife and newborn. Hearts don't break -- they are too soft. They just get mashed and bloody. I wanted to beat the ever loving shit out of him. God, I wanted to break his pretty face. But when I took up boxing, I promised my coach, who was also my Grandfather, I wouldn't fight outside a ring, and not breaking that promise was worth too much of my soul. So I climbed out the window and up the fire escape. I punched the wall on the way up -- it seemed like a good idea at the time. I still have the scar on my finger. I probably cried, but I don't remember that part. But listening to Lindsey Buckingham wail? That I remember like it was this morning. "Damn your love, damn your lies." Like it was this morning.

Alternative Tentacles was one of those labels that did not skimp!! AT ALL.

This is one of my first albums (on AT). Came with all kinds of political stuff and a rare Maximum Rock n Roll volume 0 which has one page for each of the 40 or so songs on the album. Lyrics, band history and more. Really great stuff!

Day 26: A song that has a great music video

I tend to go with the first song that comes to mind and I try not to repeat songs on this song challenge... That said, this song was my first entry ever: it was a June challenge for "a song that can make you cry." Part of the reason for that is this video... Filmed in October, 1989 and directed by the soon-to-be great feature filmmaker, David Fincher. His extraordinary talent was clear from his video making days.

After I got discharged from the army, my marriage really fell apart. I finally got divorced in 2012. I met my now-wife right around the time everything was being finalized. I told myself I was gonna be a male slut and fuck around. But then I met Suzie and I knew this was it.

I remember flying back from a business trip in Denver and listening to this song on my iPod over and over. I knew it was time to make a brand new start and have faith again.

Happily together since then and finally married in 2020.

I just posted a song by OK Go so couldn’t do them.

This is a fun one. Sorry they broke up. Got to see them at the Bowery Ballroom in 2014. My GF (now wife) picked me up at Newark Airport from a biz trip, brought a change of clothes. Dinner in little Italy and then the Strypes.

I fantasized it was like seeing The Stones before they were big.
