Day 11: A Song That Makes You Cry

Every song does, at some point... but one hits me EVERY time...
Perfect Circle - R.E.M.
It's not actually sad, it's from the era of "what the hell is he singing" Stipe, but it's the feel... it sounds crepuscular, the day fading on a summer evening, low light, golden, long shadows and the feeling of something amazing slipping away and never to e repeated.
Oh yeah, the drummer wrote it... how good were they!

Fairport Convention: Who knows where the time goes

This has been covered by lots of artists. This is the original writer; Sandy Denny

Have you read Richard Thompson's book? It is very good and funny. Doesn't give much away about some things, but well worth checking out.

Day 11: A song that makes you cry

Not because it is a sad song, but because at a very low point in my life, I heard this song and drew strength from it. It was what I needed to hear that day. I often cry when I hear it now as all those emotions come flooding back.

Day 11: A song that makes you cry

I wouldn't say this makes me cry but it certainly tugs at the heart strings.

While I am not anyone's son, I was certainly seen as such in my early life. This song recalls a lot of those emotions and the trauma that lives deep in my bones still. But it also hits on a future that has just recently become available to me, a path I've taken my first steps on towards possible reconciliation.

All I can say is that while I would have loved things in my life to have gone differently, I wouldn't change any of my decisions. And I'm glad I stayed true to myself, and kept "kissing boys in the streets" despite it all.

Calum Scott - Boys In The Street
