Day 29: A song about time

14 17 (time flies 😖) years ago I was listening to the radio at the beach. Bandit Rock 106.3, playing the latest in rock and metal, always the certain bet when you want to discover something new, and DJ'ed by Ian Haugland (drummer in Europe).

Well, a song came on and it struck me like a sledgehammer. What is this?? What in the name of the devil is this music? I hadn't heard anything like it before; heavy rock n' roll. Not metal, not rock, something else. I've later come to know the genre as an offshoot of rockabilly; Psychobilly.

It's the soundtrack of oily car garages, the smell of pomade, the look of denim jackets and attitude of pompadour hairstyles. So much fucking charisma it's bubbling over and infecting the audience.

The band was Volbeat, a couple of chiseled Danes, and to this day nothing gets my adrenaline pumping as hard as a Volbeat concert. Singer Michael Poulsen has been described as "what Elvis would have sounded like, had he picked up an electric guitar instead".
