Day 16: A song that reminds you of a book

Going to take a page out of the rule book and post a graphic novel instead!

1982: When the Wild Wind Blows is a satirical and critical take on Britain's lacking preparations for nuclear war. In the novel we follow Hilda and Jim as they try to survive an imminent nuclear strike, but their shelter is woefully lacking. We get to see their daily life, how it's turned upside down by the war, and the aftermath of the attack.

It's grim, gritty, horrific, and sobering. Cannot recommend it enough.

2010: When the Wild Wind Blows is based on the novel of the same name, but it takes a wild turn in the final act. Hilda and Jim are convinced that the war is coming, and have been preparing well and good. As news of the attack comes in they take refuge in their shelter, ready to weather the storm. But it never comes. The broadcast changes, telling them the readings were wrong; there was never an attack, it was just an earthquake.
But Hilda and Jim know better. The TV is lying to them. Of course it's an attack! Why else would they have been preparing? No, they'll stick to their guns. But as the dust settles, they don't want to deal with the aftermath their imaginations have thought up.

So they sip their poison. They die as they lived, together. And completely inconsequential.

can't believe all the lying
all the screens are denying
that the Moment of Truth has begun

Iron Maiden - When the Wild Wind Blows

Thank you for your guest appearance @UnquietDreams! You did great 💕 Went a little overboard on this final prompt, in your honor! And to @SalaciousMonkey22's great chagrin 🤭
Wow. Now I'm curious to know what you would have written, had you picked Pet Sematary before me!

👏

UDPW Day 14: A song involving math in any form you want

Look, counting is math. It's literally the foundation of math. The first thing we learn how to do before we can add or subtract. My favorite thing about this song is that when we were driving home after seeing Hamilton for the first time, having not heard the whole soundtrack, I tried to explain to my partner how this song was the inspiration for '10 Duel Commandments'. She was less than amused.🙃

Day 16: A song that reminds you of a book
Behind Blue Eyes - The Who
Someone once told me this song reminded them of Snape from Harry Potter and I never hear it without thinking of him.

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
And no one knows what it's like
To be hated
To be fated to telling only lies
But my dreams they aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

Always 🩵

Day 15: A song about things ending.

Generally speaking, I try to veer away from morose songs. Life IS so fucking depressing without our entertainment doing the same thing. But there's a sweetness in this, even if it is fucking sad.

I feel that way too. Especially these days. This stupid funny tweet has popped up in my head every time I've listened to Death Cab since February so that helps balance out their sadder songs.

Again, another fabulous song choice. As soon as I figure out what song I'm posting, going back and listening to this a handful of times again. Ugh, girl, get outta my playlists 🤣 but don't actually.

Day 16: A song that reminds you of a book
i was having trouble with this topic and then my brain just clicked...snow white opens on friday and while there is already controversy, rachel zegler is both beautiful and has an amazing voice...sunrise of the reaping, the story of haymitch abernathy winning the hunger games, comes out on tuesday...both of these events reminded me of a ballad of songbirds and snakes and rachel zegler's version of the hanging tree...so erie, dark, and beautiful...

Day 16: A song that reminds you of a book

Every time I hear this song it transports me back to the Dark Tower series written by Stephen King. I always love the songs he includes in his books but this one hits hard. Specifically because it elicits a feeling of hope and strength for a character that failed in a previous book.
