❌Monthly Song Challenge: Archived🎵

One of the best songs ever. I don’t like the new cover at all. It’s not that it’s specifically bad, but I think it takes away from the genuineness of this song.
I enjoy the original, but appreciate the cover for what it was, a loving tribute. He had memories as a child, going down the road in his truck with his father who loved the song and sang with it every time it was on. In the south. In the '80s. He knew at that moment that if a Black, queer woman's music could touch his father's heart like that, music could do magic.

And it got interest in the original, which helped Chapman. The duet was nice as well.

Day 4: A song by a local artist

I wasn't so sure about today's theme for a minute or two because I don't exactly live in London or Los Angeles, where the amazing bands are endless. There's not a lot of population around these parts (lol). However, once I started thinking about it a little bit more carefully, I remembered three or four great bands that I hadn't thought about in years. There is great music everywhere! Cool theme today...

The Northern Pikes - Teenland

Did I do today's prompt wrong? I was thinking more artists with predominantly local followings... not so much artists from a particular locality...

Day 4 - a song by a local artist:

Edge of Seventeen - Twisted Gypsy (+2 for 2 female vocalists)

Twisted Gypsy originated locally in Ventura County and is the best tribute band I have seen. They perform quite a number of shows locally every year, many of them outdoors and free. Check out some of their YouTube videos.

Multiple women, +2 (total of 7)

I am Lao. We are a people originating from the area around Laos, although a majority of us live in Thailand. It's been decades since I left my homeland to come and live in Sweden, but, nothing brings me back as much as the sound of the ແຄນ (khene, càn, kaen).

A wind instrument constructed by reeds of bamboo, producing a sound like a tiny chuch organ, its sound and traditions date back well over a thousand years. There is a very particular smell about it, earthy, tangy, lovely.

I miss it. It is family. It is home.

These girls popped up a while ago in the feeds of people from around Vientiane, and it makes me indescribably happy to see that even in today's modern society, the art of the ແຄນ lives on.

Your posts are always so interesting... personal and poetic!
Thank you for introducing us to this instrument and this music!
This part is so beautiful: "I miss it. It is family. It is home." Powerful. Thank you for sharing.

There is no wrong! (Unless you post more than one song)
All prompts are up for interpretation

Day 4: A song by a local artist

Etta spent her later years in one of my hometowns. My mom met her at work and she was telling her about various things like how the music execs liked to get the artists hooked on prescription drugs so they were easier to control ☹️

Day 4: A song by a local artist
A great cover of a classic Aussie song, the boys would be happy with her version
