I had searched the BDSM library, but found no topics regarding speculum use or fetish. It's of interest to me and so I went exploring to find more info. only to be confronted by 101 million porn pages. Aside from whether or not there are any good web resources on this topic, I wondered whether this (vaginal speculum) is predominantly a fetish or if it is partialism?

I personally dread my yearly pap smear, so I'm trying to understand why the speculum might be regarded as a fetish and why there are so many porn sites (medical or not) that feature the speculum?

In a way, I see the speculum as a stepping stone toward the more post-human fetishes.

Any thoughts?

Funny that you mention this, I actually didn't like my semi-annual exams either until one day there was a very handsome intern present.
I never used to fantasize about specula or anything of that nature, but that sure changed. I guess laying there so exposed and vulnerable awakened something within me.
I still use that memory in my "private time", although I never experienced it in my sexlife. The stepping stone you mention makes sense, for me it is more the control thing that works, the probing, exposure, shame, etc. is what does it for me. Nothing better than having no control over stimuli received by me. I don't know if that makes it part of BDSM, maybe...

being a nurse, I dont get into the concept of speculums as a part of play.
I do know a dom who has quite a collection though. including an evil looking one with studs all over it.

Anyone have pictures, sources??? I have a large one: Max opened 1.5" x 2.5" used anally. Scene idea: Use with hot candle wax from spicter down. Took me 2 weeks to get the courage. I became a nervous wreck. Decided I might as well, before I wound up in the rubber room from anxiety. Much ado about nothing! It wasn't anywhere near what I had imagined. That happens so often. :D

electro (tens) play w/plastic speculums???

my D is an engineer and has used a set of plastic/acrylic speculums and crafted them w/metal conductors to be (eventually) used with his TENS unit on me. now i'm very curious and have HUGE fantasies about TENS unit play. However, (the doubting part of me) is concerned that electricity mixed w/wet pussy and plastic... may not mix. One of the most spectacular, if fearsome looking, Roman medical instruments is the vaginal dilator or speculum (dioptra). It comprises a priapiscus with 2 (or sometimes 3 or 4) dovetailing valves which are opened and closed by a handle with a screw mechanism, an arrangement that was still to be found in the specula of 18th-century Europe. Here's a pic: speculum
