Oddly, I have a friend who’s an exec at a large Health Insurance company who was literally just telling me that I’ll see that question on every check-in form because the federal billing standards pay you a bonus if you address mental health during an appointment.

Oddly, I have a friend who’s an exec at a large Health Insurance company who was literally just telling me that I’ll see that question on every check-in form because the federal billing standards pay you a bonus if you address mental health during an appointment.

Well that's really stupid. How do you earn more by asking this question? My son broke his arm and they asked him if he was depressed. He's like no, but my arm looks like an S so that sucks.

And for me, my care is at the VA. They don't get paid more or less for anything.

Oh! It goes further! Quality of life questions: Suicidal ideation, smoking status, and fall risk are common questions that have money incentive to answer. I remember when they used to ask if I had a gun in the house but I don't think they can ask that anymore.
