Yes, that is or at least was the silliness of younger guys. And often the silliness goes further. If you are their slut too easily they assume that you are a slut. So they need you to go through the charade of letting them be the one to convince you to be a slut but only for them.

My guess, and I suppose its just a guess, is that when younger guys get involved in a relationship with someone their own age, they are seeking a situation in which they will feel confident and masculine and having a degree of control. And also perhaps a bit of the traditional innocent wife-type partner.
When they get involved with an older woman, their expectations are different. The woman's superior experience is part of the attraction.

I think that is probably correct. They come to a relationship with an older woman with different expectations. And if that isn't what they want they will be less likely to be interested in an older woman.

Although oddly enough I have encountered young men who are interested in my superior experience as an older woman who were put off by superior experience in a woman their own age.

I don't think that's odd at all. They are looking for different types of relationships. I can't put my finger on the logic of it. I suppose there is no real logic, its all about feelings and what they have absorbed from the culture. In a relationship with a young woman, they want to feel strong and manly by being confident and in charge to some degree. If the woman is more experienced, it undermines that dynamic. In a relationship with an older woman, they can feel strong and manly just from being an object of lust to an older, experienced woman.

There is a large group within the female population that LOVES older males. I'm one of them. I've been attracted to them since I was 18 yrs. Now that I'm in my late 30s, I'm in a sexual relationship with a 70 yr old. Nothing stops sex if the persons involved have compatible sexual chemistry.
