Its not a federal holiday. It's not a state holiday here anymore either.

Well, every government building, school and bank closing down sort of acknowledges it.

Columbus day was a political ploy to get votes from the large, powerful at the time voting block of Italian descendants. Even if you take the dubious track that someone can discover a place filled with people already, he didn't have anything to do with any part of what is now the US . But government workers are not going to give back a paid holiday.

Also, being of tribal descent, I celebrate it differently.

We have 8 statutory holidays in the year - colloquially called bank holidays. Mostly pagan festivals appropriated.

No. A lot of people celebrate it that day, but it is still "Columbus Day" in the list of Federal Holidays.

What is a holiday really? Is Christmas a pagan originated festival?, a Christian holiday because Constantine decided to cover up said pagan festival? Is it a completely rescripted meaning altogether to fatten the retailers and commercialism of our society? ..the answer is yes. Literally you assign whatever it now means to you. I am not a witch but Reece's pumpkins just hit different so yay Halloween. I married into a colonized people group...am I going to go to work in protest of Columbus Day? Fuck no.
