It's inland now. Down to a 2. 95mph wind but stronger gusts.
I was in 100 mph straight-line winds in the Midwest and it was pretty intense.
Of course, I was staying in a friend’s old farmhouse, and it probably wasn’t designed to withstand much more than that. That old house was making some disturbing noises while the wind was peaking.
I would imagine your home has been “hurricane-proofed” to some degree???

From about 5 minutes ago from my front porch.
Local reports say 32mph winds here.
My sister took a direct hit.![]()
Looks like you’re making up for your rainfall deficit.

Nope. It’s as insensitive as you think. Why do we keep paying for sheer stupidity?I think that you are asking more for reform of the National Flood Insurance Program NFIP covered by John Oliver rather than the kind of insensitive way this post is hitting my ear.
Okay it's light out now. The little tree has a slight lean, it can be staked. It will be fine. The the big tree in front just fine. The golden raintree in the back lost two decent size limbs. Actually the tree has a better shape now and I may remove another small limb. The elderberry in the back took a beating and has a serious case of the leans. I'm hoping with staking that it will survive.
Otherwise the yard is a bit of a mess with debris. I also have a bit of standing water in the low spots but I anticipate it to be fully trained easily by midday probably sooner. The good news is the Golden rain tree seed pods have been majority blown off. So less seedlings this year, that's a good thing.
Most of the neighborhood looks like it has no power. I do however as well as the other dozen or so homes on this string. I'm not sure what's going on with the Internet. I'm assuming their little box a few blocks away has no power.

"What does putting Anderson Cooper on a pier in the middle of the ocean at the height of a hurricane in its center achieve in informing viewers. It's like 120mph winds. Get my sweet porcelain glass anchor inside," one X user wrote.
Another wrote on X that "CNN better let Anderson Cooper drink on New Year's Eve this year after sending him to Florida and report outside during this hurricane,"
In the comments of the YouTube video from CNN, users continued to express their worries as one wrote, "I’m sorry but we don't need to see it that bad!!!!! You have kids Anderson !!!!"
Another said "why are you there, Anderson??"
One commenter added, "Everyone trying to earn an Emmy for best hurricane reporting."
don't know who was more stupid: CNN for sending Anderson Cooper outside during the hurricane or A.C for actually doing it. Stupid, stupid, stupid and against all the warnings people are given not to do such things! Makes me pretty cross because him getting hit in the face by debris was entirely unnecessary.
I'm not a fan of the tree. They were planted en masse about 60 years ago or so and the majority of the seeds germinate into saplings. So even if you get rid of it, old seeds will germinate. So I'm actually pretty excited about having almost all the halfway developed seed pods being blown off the tree.TIL a "golden rain tree" is a thing.note to self: "seed pods" not "pea pods"
The video of those tornadoes were truly insane.126 tornado warnings yesterday... with Irma, there were 69, and that was the last record. Milton said "hold my beer"
the hurricanes were much larger with Milton, too, staying on the ground longer and subsequently more damaging
St. Petersburg had over 18" of rain
