Yeah, big changes still happening here. "Storyteller" went from just below the four star threshold up to my third highest rated story ever. For contest newbies: There is likely to be another sweep tonight, just before the voting cut off. I've seen stories get big bumps in that last sweep, so there's really no telling who might be a winner. Good luck!
I've seen up to 3 sweeps the day of the announcement, It's just getting exciting! For contest newbies: There is likely to be another sweep tonight, just before the voting cut off. I've seen stories get big bumps in that last sweep, so there's really no telling who might be a winner. Good luck!
I had this cool idea for Halloween contest: to write two short stories with the same premise, but place them in different categories.Stepping back from contest writing has done wonders for my mental health.
Agent, sorry to hear that but it's understandable. Sometimes it's necessary to focus well ahead and plan for something further down the road rather than something right around the corner. Skip a contest or two (or whatever) if you need to, but start working on something and do a little at a time over a longer time so you'll be able to eventually finish a story while still having a life. Choose a contest and a theme that interests you and write to achieve your result, even if it takes a second or third contest cycle to accomplish. Good luck....And even that would require me to sacrifice my whole free time, so it looks like I’ll drop out of contests for the near future too.
I have two stories in, neither of which I expect to win (based on the excellent stories from other authors). I jump from All Activity on my Home to read comments, but I have avoided looking at scores. It does improve my mental health. I'll check the scores in about 2 more weeks.I didn't enter the Summer Lovin' contest, and for the first time my stories haven't lost any votes during the sweeps so far.

A bot (I imagine) goes through your votes and cancels out any that it deems fraudulent. You can get an increase OR a decrease (or no change at all) in the overall rating for a story when this happens. I would guess that if you have 15 stories and one person votes them all as 1-star, those votes would be erased. But I don't think anyone really knows the criteria this site uses for the sweep. What is this 'sweep' of which you speak?
The criteria and mechanisms are intentionally black boxed to prevent misuse.A bot (I imagine) goes through your votes and cancels out any that it deems fraudulent. I'm glad she does this. Personally, I'd like to see the sweep logic applied to the front end, requiring a login and a comment if the vote is out of line with whatever criteria she set; "You're trashing this story, own it or your vote will not be registered."Wow, just checked my scores and compared them to yesterday. Laurel scraped a LOT of hate out of my catalog
Yeah, it's a marvel of programming, no doubt. My two-months-old Story Game that has nothing to do with any of this is losing votes, none of them a 1*. They better hang onto that code, it could be worth millionsThe criteria and mechanisms are intentionally black boxed to prevent misuse.
This happens when someone logs into the site anonymously, multiple times, and gives a story more than one 5* vote. She is also taking out the votes on the stories

I thought the code is black boxed? Yet you apparently know how it works. This happens when someone logs into the site anonymously, multiple times, and gives a story more than one 5* vote.
Congratulations to the winners! The winners are up...

Congratulations!
Some things just take a little noodling, but what it does and how it does it are very different.I thought the code is black boxed? Yet you apparently know how it works.
The only obvious thing is that the sweep hits just the more recent votes, which implies that there is an option to set the date of the votes that get swept.
