I’m just glad I wasn’t the only one who dislikes the bowtie..

I also don’t find it sexy, personally… I feel like I’d be fucking Bill Nye .. and as much as I LOVE Bill Nye I don’t know if I would bang Bill Nye.
Of course, the real fun with wearing a bow tie is when you get to wear it undone in a rakish manner at the end of an evening.

Last night

That may be a toss-up between in the middle of a bridge over a river at midnight, and in front of a huge window in a bookshop during business hours.

You like them. No horrible locations.
Okay, so not "O'Hare Airport." Got it.

In general, Tokyo. It is such an amazing place, so different from anywhere. Living there was just...amazing.

But the place I would love everyone to experience? It is a little different. Off Half Moon Bay in California, there is a break called Mavericks. It is a long way out -- for years surfers thought it was a myth. The surf contests tow you out by personal water craft, but usually you just paddle. A lot. Mavericks is the biggest of the big waves. After a big winter storm you can get rideable waves over 60' tall. Insane people ride those. This day was much, much smaller.

We started out before dawn. I had no business being out there. I was, at best, an adequate surfer, and this was hard for experts. But there was a bet, and a girl... Anyway, this part wasn't about that. We made it out when the sun was just coming up. I had made two passes and survived though no fault of my own, so I was just on my board with the rest setting up. I was done. But rather than watching the beach, the noise, and the rest of us, I turned my stick and faced the horizon. I was far enough away from everyone, and the quiet struck me. Nothing in sight. Nothing but where water meets sky. It was an epiphany, but I can't remember what was revealed. But it was profound, and it changed me.

Sorry, long-winded, I am. But those who I love, I would want that place, that moment.

I likely have 2 dozen bow ties in my closet, and fewer than five regular ties.

I want to visit Japan at some point.

I've had some similar experiences like that out on the water, though probably not as far from shore as you.
