it is true though … there is only so much room and if you build more multi-use then people need access to more park space and outdoor space and we are limited there too.
Portland city council is trying to push more dense housing along the MAX light rail lines by strictly enforcing the urban growth boundary and refusing to improve any of the overburdened freeways, since if people aren't in pain from traffic, they won't use light rail. Which no one does, and half that do don't pay. They have to get federal subsidies to keep in running. Don't get me wrong, I am a big proponent of mass transit, but the toy trains are too inflexible (and don't run in high heat or ice since the power lines sag). Buses make more sense, but they aren't near as sexy. (And they don't let coyotes ride buses. I love my new av!)
