It is a marketing term, not a technical one. "Intelligence" implies understanding. What we call AI is a language modeling algorithm --advanced pattern recognition. There is no intelligence there -- it is only finding patterns, and understands nothing. Is it good at finding patterns? Sure. But it doesn't understand any of it. I am not sure what you mean about programs doing something on its own without direct input. Subprocess do that all the time, so maybe I am missing something in your statement.Well now I'm both confused and intrigued. Are you equating AI to True AI, like, Turing-beating AI? I think there are degrees of it, like, a program doing things on its own without direct input is in my mind a form of AI. Low level, sure, but still. No?
I don't know much about AI, I don't really use it outside of picture, song and text generation. So I'll defer to you on this, thanks for enlightening meIt is a marketing term, not a technical one. But "AI" is a marketing phrase, like "the Cloud." It catches the imagination in actual thinking entities.
I have absolutely nothing to add Language use fascinates me. Pattern recognition is fascinating as well. So I study a bit. yeah ChatGPT is pure fun! No actual use. Try asking it something like "songs by artist that includes reference to thing" and it'll spit out complete nonsense, like saying All Along the Watchtower has references to eyeball licking. Then when you question it, it goes "you're right, my apologies, all along the watchtower does indeed lack references to eyeball licking"Language use fascinates me. But I was married to a college professor, and saw how many students tried to use it to create papers for her A&P classes. Longer documents show the weaknesses, and anything where it is supposed to come to conclusions gets...weird. And references? Forget about it. The easiest way to see that a student is using ChatGPT or one of the others is in how it writes the references--they get hilarious.
There has been a running controversy on the "working" side of Lit, with people submitting AI stories. Also, people being accused of AI stories even when they wrote it, which is sort of hilarious if you aren't one of those people...Having group work an one of the members sent in a text from AI. It is so obvious. He was kicked off the group![]()
As for your original question, which I sort of skated over, autotune is just pitch adjustment. It isn't even in the same area as ChatGPT and the like.yeah ChatGPT is pure fun! No actual use.
