I think it's a function of the new forum and the "Me Too" movement. Joining this place before those two milestones breeds a very different experience and outlook as opposed to after.
You had to join just to look at AmPics once upon a time. Not sure that's still the case, especially now that third party hosting sites are more popular than uploading directly to lit.
