So it is about 80 here, clear as a bell, and beautiful. The apple orchard across the street is blooming, someone just mowed their grass, and the air is just...alive. I put my hammock together on the balcony, and I am doing some comfort reading with my favorite novel for an hour or so.

How often do you re-read a book? By extension, how often do you rewatch a show or movie?

I was saying this to our favourite monkey boy the other day that I don't typically rewatch a show or movie because there are just too many I haven't yet seen and rewatching something just takes away from that.

How often do you re-read a book? By extension, how often do you rewatch a show or movie?

I was saying this to our favourite monkey boy the other day that I don't typically rewatch a show or movie because there are just too many I haven't yet seen and rewatching something just takes away from that.

I am the same with books. I have never ever reread a book.

If it's a favorite book, maybe 2 or 3 times. Might listen to the audiobook to have someone else read it.

TV shows I tend not to rewatch. Movies, however, if it's a top 5 movie, I can watch it once a year on the regular.

There are books I reread, and books I don't. For example, if I am in a long running series, I may reread from the start to catch up. And there are books that I reread because I am different than when I read if first. A book hits far different at 16 than it does at 56, and I love that.

But there are books that are foundational to who I am and helped me to become the person I am. And I revist them like old friends. The one I am rereading, Emma Bull's War for the Oaks, which I can say is not the best book I have ever read, but it is my favorite, is one of those.

There is a quote by Umberto Eco (and I have reread a couple of his over the years) that sums it up nicely.

"It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones

"There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion.

"If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice!

I am not as cut and dried as his last opinion, but it is why I keep books that mean a lot to me, ones I will (or may) reread. And my TBR pile is currently a small bookshelf (and I have a TBR bag of books in my car.)

I've only re-read a few books... probably 5 or less.

But rewatching TV shows and/or movies??? All the time. Like every day. I heard something relatively recently that it is a common trait of people with my personality type (INFP). To us, it's like hanging out with old friends. We get comfort from these characters and maybe we know what to expect from them? I'm not really sure what it is, but I've watched some TV episodes easily 40-50 times. There are movies I can almost turn off the sound and recite every line in the movie.

EDIT: It just occurred to me, I bought the Barbie movie less than 2 months ago (hadn't seen it yet). I've now watched it 5 or 6 times.

I reread books all the time, even as I add new ones to my library. If I really enjoyed one, I’ll end up rereading it eventually. They’re like old friends, who, sometimes as I’ve aged, read differently because I have learned more along life’s road.
Mostly it’s because I love the characters the little peeks into their lives the author gives me through the words on the page.
If that makes any sense at all.

I rarely reread books. Like I can honestly only think of one I revisit every so often, and it was a childhood favorite. I love to read and do so every day, but part of the fun that keeps me going is the suspense and not knowing what's going to happen.

I do rewatch my favorite movies though, especially holiday ones

I’ve rarely reread a book. They take so long and there are so many books I haven’t read. I rewatch the heck out of movies, they can be consumed easily in an evening, like listening to an album again. It takes a special show to rewatch.

I find comfort in familiarity.

I will read books once for vibes and then read again for integration.

I watch TV shows I know and love to relax.

Might be worth noting that's probably my autism.
