Day 3: A post-breakup song

Meshell Ndegeocello is one of my favourite artists, hands down. I’ve travelled to Boston to go see her live in a very intimate setting and I’ve since seen her twice more after that. I cannot love this woman more. She is incredibly talented and you can just see the passion she has for creating music.

I don’t know what state she was in when she wrote her album Bitter but I can only imagine. It is, to me, the best breakup album ever produced.

If you are not familiar with her, I truly encourage you to listen to this entire album, it’s so good! Like a balm to soothe your aching heart. And her being a queer woman adds an additional layer of familiarity to the songs that holds me tightly in its arms.

Day 3: Post break up song

Diamonds - Diamonds

Shake it off
Shake the fear of feeling lost
Always me that pays the cost
I should never trust so easily
You lied to me, lie-lied to me
Then left with my heart 'round your chest

Sam Smith has the best break up songs. When my bestie was getting married we were trying to make a playlist and I tried to put a Sam Smith song in there, but I realized the majority of their songs are kind of sad. 😅
I have DJed weddings before, which is cheesy, but can me fun. When receiving the list of requests from the bridal party, I like to go over the list and ask, "do you really want this at your wedding?" Some were horrified when I showed them lyrics...

Day 3: Post break up song

There are so many great lines in this song.... (I didn't bother with the yeah, yeahs 🤣🤣)

I know we really tried
Together we had love inside
So now the time has come
For both of us to live on the run

Knowing that you would have wanted it this way
I do believe I'm feeling stronger every day

After what you've meant to me
Ooh, baby now, I can't make it easily
I know that we both agree
The best thing to happen to you
The best thing to happen to me

To me, this song screams about finding the strength inside to move on and find a better life.

Well, I'm fat lazy and slow, so I guess I'll try to catch up here.
