Sex & Shenanigans

By the by, the verse I quoted was on Cohen's original recording, it just doesn't make it on most of the cover versions. When Bob Dylan asked Leonard for his version, Cohen faxed a hundred verses. He never considered it finished.

I always heard something like 17 verses. I had no idea it was that many. Leonard Cohen was a brilliant writer. I can’t listen to a damned song of his though.

It’s a long song. I sat through a performance where the singer just kept going. The crowd looked so confused and thought the guy was on a mushroom trip.

But each verse was incredible. So there’s that too.

Traditions around our ending are fascinatingly different. With Jews we have the funeral and burial within 72 hours and then we gather with friends and family through story telling and food (always food). I can see the cathartic approach to both.
My families are primarily Irish (with a large dose of Arapaho), and a wake is similar. A celebration of life, with music and food and booze and stories after stories. A person is never gone as long as they are still spoken of.

It’s my favorite song to cover though. I posted one version on my own thread last week.
Found the thread! Here comes a deep dive... I have a few attempts at singing up in the Sing A Song thread, but, people who can actually sing is such a rare treat 💕 you've a lovely voice!

I saved you some time. And thank you!

I mean... is it though? is iiiiit? There's like a handful of people who sound like him. Tom Waits. Movie Trailer Guy. Who else?
His voice isn't anywhere as unique as Waits. Cohen is a bass who just isn't great at staying in tune. Not much more human than that.

That is what the CSI version was based on. I have never (nor want to) go to the one in Tennessee, but I know people who have done research there.
Same, I wouldn't visit, but I remember the episode, and was fascinated....
Kinda like the x-ray porn...

On a side note, I've told my part we I want to become glass.... So it's my understanding that's cremation first and then a roll and blow process 🫶

I looked it up, Cohen originally had at least 80 verses that he cut down to 16 for his original version. Buckley's cover may be about an orgasm, but the original was more complex.
