I actually give nonshits about edition wars (these days , given my druthers is way prefer a PbtA or Cypher or OSR game to any D&D edition, but I play the games I got). I understand why people didn’t like 4e but I think it was structurally way more interesting an evolution than 5e. I do have a particular interest in how the lore has changed and evolved over the various systems though. It’s nice to see her impact on the game writ large.

Eh, I don't get into edition wars either. There are always options. But 4E didn't sing to me --to much miniature focused. I came out of AD&D, where everything was pretty much described, "theater of the mind" style. I get why miniatures are a focus for the company, and where people love them, even continuing in 5. Not my speed, but as I said earlier, everyone should do what makes their sick little heart happy.
