Day 22- A song from the 10's.
Woman + Green = 39.

Of Monsters and Men; in 2011 they took the world by storm with their debut album My Head is an Animal.
Then Nanna took my heart.
And then she took my nose.
She gave me the confidence to get my septum piercing!

A constant reminder of a wonderful year with some wonderful music 🥰

Dirty Paws

Love them. ❤️

Imelda May: Jonny got a boom boom

As a bodhrán player myself, I have a deep, abiding love for Imelda May. The whole rockabilly vibe is a blast. And the way she holds the beater in her mouth may have something to do with my love of this clip specifically...

Day 22- A song from the 2010's

Yesterday we went bombastic. Today, we go the other direction again, with Lankum. Lankum plays doom folk. With a deep respect of the classic Celtic influences, they slow everything down and play over a drone, usually supplied by multi-instrumentalist Radie Peat, who plays the beyan and concertina, among other air driven, droning instruments.

Originally a duo of the brother's Lynch, performing under the name Lynched. After expanding to a four piece, they decided that name was in poor taste, and changed the name to Lankum, after the ballad "False Lankum." Originally buskers in London, the Lynch brothers decided to return home to Ireland. They decided to mix the punk they loved with trad music. After their first album as a duo, they found themselves interested in the traditional music, and focused more on that end of things. They met more people who were in the same straits: on the dole, unemployed, and loving music. Those three things drove much of their songwriting, with a focus on the small beats and the people society politely ignores.

So her is Lankum's flavor of Celtic music. It is slower, it is methodical, and its lovely. (This one is pretty upbeat. Their version of "Rocky Road to Dublin" is a brilliant dirge, but later in the century. But I almost did a version of Rocky Road from each decade.)

"Bad Luck to the Rolling Water," - Lankum. (+1 female artist, +1 Irish artists, +1 Irish locations, +1 booze. [edit] and I'm and idiot and forgot Luck. You know, in the title... +1 for luck=5)

(49+5=54)

Day 22- A song from the 2010's

In This Moment - Whore

I can be your whore!
I am the dirt you created
I am your sinner
I am your whore
But let me tell you something baby
You love me for everything you hate me for”

This song is actually much more powerful than what the title makes it out to be. You can tell that Maria Brink, the lead singer, had a hand in writing this song.

I really like In this Moment. Maria Brink is remarkable, and their videos are fascinating. They bring to mind Emilee Autumn does industrial/horror, a lot of the same real estate, emotionally, with a different vision.

Day 21: A song from the 00s

"Oh," I hear you say, "Unquiet Dreams, what about Irish heavy metal?" Just kidding, no one is asking that. Crap, these are getting long. I promise, I didn't mean for them to be. I will try to be shorter tomorrow. Sorry.
"Oh, Unquiet Dreams, what about Irish mythology?" I didn't see any summarized in today's caption 🥲 You picked a damn good song but I'm a brat in search of stories, forgive me 😂
