State of the Union Address Thread

HisArpy is correct on the state's rights bullshit. This is just one more reason why state's rights is absolute bullshit and I'm kinda curious how long it will take those red states to start arresting women who get abortions out of state and other interstate conflicts.
It won't happen because the women in those states will be a voting majority. The question is, how many of them actually approve of abortion? Is it enough to maintain that majority on the question? That's the other part of the story.

BS, it had little to do with the actual "state of the union." It was a angry disgraceful campaign speech full of lies to the American people. It had more to do the crazed and convoluted "state" of Joe Biden's mind than the "state of the nation." Here are a few facts:

In his 2024 State of the Union address, President Joe Biden touched on several important topics, but it’s essential to critically evaluate the accuracy of his statements. Here are some key points from his speech:
  1. Wages and Inflation:
    • Biden claimed that “wages keep going up” and that the U.S. inflation rate of about 3% is the “lowest in the world!” However, wages have actually decreased when adjusted for inflation during his presidency. Additionally, several other nations reported lower inflation rates than the U.S. in December1.
  2. Federal Deficit:
    • The president stated that he had “cut the federal deficit by over one trillion dollars.” However, declining deficits were primarily due to expiring emergency pandemic spending, not necessarily his policies.
  3. Job Creation:
    • Biden boasted about creating a “record” 15 million new jobs. While this is a record for any president in their first three years, it’s not the highest job growth rate achieved during that period.
    • He also suggested that many new jobs in U.S. semiconductor factories would pay $100,000 a year and not require a college degree. However, an industry trade group previously reported that only workers with bachelor’s or graduate degrees make that much.
  4. Clean Energy Investments:
    • Biden claimed that his policies attracted $650 billion in private sector investment in clean energy and advanced manufacturing. However, these are announcements about intentions to invest, not actual investments.
  5. Crime Rates:
    • The president highlighted recent decreases in murder and violent crime rates but omitted that they are still coming down from their pandemic peak.
    • He also left out context regarding a Trump comment following an Iowa school shooting.
  6. Tax Rates and Health Insurance:
    • Biden said billionaires pay an average federal tax rate of only 8.2%, but this calculation includes earnings on unsold stock as income.
    • His claim that over 100 million people can no longer be denied health insurance due to preexisting conditions due to the Affordable Care Act overlooks the fact that employer plans covered many of those people and couldn’t deny policies pre-ACA.
  7. Carbon Emissions Reduction:
In summary, while Biden’s speech covered a range of topics, it’s crucial to fact-check and consider the context behind each statement. Some claims were accurate, while others were misleading or omitted important details12.

Wonderful. Now fact check tRump’s stump speeches. Also, the choice is very clear as to who is the better person and who will keep this country moving forward and it’s not tRump

Why? Trump didn't give a State of the Union Speech this year. This is about Biden's speaking disaster that took place this year?

So your argument is that women think they are above the law? I mean if you believe that abortion is murder which is the primary argument then you can't go out of state to commit murder. Isn't this the core of the completely justified if largely poltiical issues with Epstein Island? That you can't go to a place where something is legal, in that case girls under whatever age is applicable where you reside and fuck them. Why would going to a location where murder is legal not be treated the same way or harsher? I know Conservatives wouldn't actually give a shit but if I bought an island decided to play 'The Most Dangerous Game', 'Squid Games', 'Hunger Games' or my personal favorite 'Battle Royale' should I be able to come back to the States and face no consequences?

It's not about what I believe or don't believe. It's what women voters believe. If enough of them believe in Abortion and can manifest that belief into political action it will become legal in states where such majorities of women exist. However men, because they have to be complicit with the procedure do get a vote in the matter. The bottom line is, it is a state issue not a constitutional issue. It can become a constitutional issue with an amendment to the Constitution affirming the right. Until that happens the issue of rights in this matter is up to the states and their constituents to decide on their own.

That's not my point which I thought I made clear. If abortion is illegal in Ohio and you travel to CA to get an abortion doesn't that mean you have to stay in California or at least never return to Ohio since you are a murderer?

Glad you at least admit that the government gives you rights. They are in no way innate.

I don’t think another state can try a “murder” case that didn’t happen in their state. I may be wrong

By that logic what happens on Epstein Island stays, legally, on Epstein Island. The DOJ didn't press charges against Matt Gaetz for sex trafficking but that is exactly what it is when you take a young woman from a state where the age of consent is 18 to a state where it is 16 for the purpose of having sex with her.

If we hold that a fetus is a human being part of the job of the state is to protect said citizens. This isn't even close to the leap of logic that has lawmakers going around on if frozen embryos count as being killed if they are mishandled.

HisArpy has responded 17 times to this thread. To save time, can someone point to one which might make some sense?

Then run for office, get elected, sponsor a bill to amend the Constitution and get it ratified by the states. Anything else is you whinging and crying.

What a punk. Almost all his responses are to BSG. He follows, sits, and waits just for her especially. And for what? Just for her to run circles around him. This is nothing new, but it is still something to point out about his weak assed character.

Amidst his rambling reply to my post, #259, he wrote something applicable to Donald Trump, "That means no more "get out of jail free" passes in the courts or on the street. YOU need to start telling people that if they do the crime, they're going to do the time. Period."

That makes sense. :sneaky:

So, everybody, remember to say something in your posts about Trump doing time is how Arpy believes we should roll.

The address is reading a teleprompter for a while. That doesn't prove mental competence. The writers do the brain work. The pres does the physical work of standing for over an hour, so that can be an achievement for someone his age, but it says nothing about ability to make national decisions. The speech that could have been done by a high school kid, used car salesman, actor, etc. might be better or worse than I expect. I will still wait for the debates to show who still has some marbles.
How would compare it to Katie Britt's response, knowing that she fibbed about the border rape episode on Biden's watch, or that she caught so much flack about it from fellow Republicans? It seemed below a high school kid's speach level - more in line with the SNL take-off.

I don't compare it, since I didn't watch either speech.

Any reason why? There are only a handful of politically important events a year and this is one of them. I mean if the world made sense the SotU would be something like Back to School Night/ Parent Teacher Night where everybody fucking watches it.

ACB joined the group of SCOTUS justices who blew off the SOTU. They missed the forgetful old man’s angry outburst. lol.

Yes, a disaster for the MAGATs since it flew in the face of your talking points. Meanwhile, trump is the one displaying actual cognitive impairment
