Did they ever?

This next video says that there are over 500 possible loadings for the .30-'06. It's hard not to like the round.

This is true, but in my experience the lighter loading's, less than 150 gr., do not fly very well. Nor do loading's over 190 gr. unless you've bothered to rebarrel with a faster twist. Not singling out the venerable -06 for this, all cartridges have similar limitations.

Right. Just because it can "do it" doesn't always mean that it's the best idea.

Most of my aught six is M2 ball type ammo. That's what the M1 likes.

I had a buddy, the guy with 200 assorteds, who was helping a fellow work up some loads for his Remington 742 (?) - I think that's right. Anyway, it didn't shoot for shit no matter what they did, and the guy was giving Mike some shit about his love for "that old junk." Mike said, "lemme show you somethin'." He went to his truck, got out his daily tool box M1, took a round from 8 of the loads they had monkeyed with, stuffed them into a clip, jacked it in the M1 and blew them all downrange without a hiccup. All kinds of loads and weights. It just ate them.

Heh . . . .

The 74x series was never a very good shooter, very limited in the ammo it would digest. Same for the 76x series. I've got a 760 in 280 Rem. that likes 139 gr. loads and not much else.

I knew a guy who had one which had "issues," also a .280 Remington. I think that the bulk of his issues with it were from neglect. I offered to help him with it and then he got weird, so fuck that. No idea how it shot or even if it shot.

I know. Kinda nauseating.

The 280 is one of those underappreciated cartridges. It's at it's best in a bolt gun and hand loads, the factory load offerings suck. It'll run within 100 fps of the 7mm Mag. without the early barrel burnout. If it had been introduced before the 270 history might be a little different but the 270 was already well established.

I did a bit of research when I was talking to that guy and decided that it looked like a decent cartridge. I wasn't feeling his rifle, though, and then Mike told me of his experience with his guy.

I've added the 6.5CM, so I'm not really looking to add another cartridge anytime soon.

If ever . . . .

With a few exceptions everything I've got is based on Military cartridges for the very reason we've discussed in the past.

I can't help but think that we may wel be closer to a Rainy Decade than ever before.

And the st000pid just keeps on st000piding . . . .

Yes, my state, South Carolina, has continued on an insane path of destruction in the hopes of becoming less civilized, more dangerous, and seeking thoughts and prayers for our future dead.
In 2014 then governor Nikki Haley signed a law allowing people to carry guns into churches and also bars just as long as they were not drinking. Let that sink in. And yes, it also meant not drinking in a bar. In 2015 someone entered a church in Charleston.
It's a piece of legislation, for me, that I wish the press would have brought up to her then and now as she ran her campaign in 2024, but folks have a poor memory and Haley can deflect with Vader like abilities. This new law continues the downward trend. Tell me again how driving a car compares to carrying a gun because I've never seen anyone argue for more drivers skipping getting their permits to driving unlicensed.

Looks like South Carolina has joined the Land of the Free. Twenty-nine down and 21 to go . . . .
Celebrate your version of freedumb while you can. Because of your overreach into insanity, the tide will turn.

Is that the fabled "blue wave" that we keep hearing about? I ask because so far all that the communists can manifest has been circulating clockwise around the commodes of today's tier one universities

We are looking forward to another stellar tydbol moment!

So I asked and Garland has rescinded the "No Plea Deal" policy on weapons charges. Figures, give the criminals a break while you try to stick it to the law abiding. And to think that that worthless pile of shit was nominated to the Supreme Court.
