I read an Anne Rice book years ago and was absolutely devastated when the romantic ending I was hoping for didn’t happen at all. I think I threw the book across the room and was in a crappy mood for days.

Needless to say, I haven’t read another of her books since.

I had the same reaction to One Day by David Nicholls and then retraumatized myself watching the Netflix series like it would somehow be a different ending

Even if the ending is happy I get a bit overwhelmed by a really good book ending. Need to read something empty like a comic book or something for a while afterwards. Like a reverse mental palette cleanser. If it’s a sad ending….ugghh even worse.

But also, man it’s great when art makes you feel something.

I don’t remember the name. Just that the lady ran off with the Lestat vampire guy at the end… and he was almost a non-character in the book. I guessed it was part of a series and I was supposed to know who he was already. It’s been over 20 years now.
