Good vodka is easy to drink as a schnapps, but gin is a source of heartburn.

Gin tastes like paint thinner, and yes I tasted it too

You don't even need to taste paint thinner to know this, it smells strong enough to be felt on your tongue.

Some cognacs and other dark liquors also have a side smell of paint thinner.

I don't doubt that. I just mean that people don't even necessarily ask why you know how paint thinner tastes like. Anyone having ever used while painting it knows.

Just had the weirdest experience, I was sitting at my desk working when I had this very familiar smell. It was a smell from the garden in Stockholm, just when there has been a light rain. It's bright sunshine here and there is nothing that could possibly replicate it. When I got a whiff of it I stopped doing what I was doing and took a big sniff and for the briefest of moments I could smell the garden 10,000+ km away. I thought maybe I had psychic smell, so I called my mom and she told me there hasn't been any rain or snow for the past week, just cloud and fog. So really weird then

I'd actually first think of how trees smell after rain. For example birch trees (common in Stockholm) smell wonderful after rain - and nothing much when it's dry.
