Day 27: Your favorite childrenโ€™s song

Kermit singing the Rainbow Connection. (Later found that Me First and the Gimmes Gimmes did a killer punk rock version)

Sang this to both of my kids at bedtime, along with Big Rock Candy Mountain, a bunch of Ramones songs, DB Cooper by Todd Snider.

Great memories of (maybe) simpler times?

Day 27: Your favorite children's song

This song was my alarm to get out to the bus when I was a kid.
And the closing was cool also when I got to watch it when I was home sick.
Too bad the cartoon didn't go long.

Day 27: Your Favorite Childrenโ€™s Song

Some fifty years ago, when I was finally old enough to use the turntable on my parents console hi-fi, there werenโ€™t many options in their record collection for a 5 year old. But there was one song on an Irish Rovers album that I would listen to over and over again. Fast forward to my early twenties and friends took my then gf and I to an Irish pub to see a regular performer there, and he did THAT song. As a participation song. With arm/hand gestures. To a room full of drunks. And it was awesome. Fast forward a few more years, and Iโ€™m singing/acting out the song to my own kids. And it was always awesome.

I give you Shel Silversteinโ€™s โ€˜The Unicornโ€™ ๐Ÿฆ„ performed by my favorite Seamus Kennedy. Go ahead. Try to keep up with the arm gestures.

Day 27 - Kids song

You guys have already nailed the real obvious ones, so I was either going to go with They Might Be Giants and their kid song stuff or this artist who saved my house from so much saccharine stuff when our kids were little, then I remember Dan Zaneโ€™s recorded this song with the goddess Debbie Harry, so here you go

Oh and @morelikeasong you can decide which I get for my 14 points.

This was choice 1.1 for me! I just like Shelโ€™s voice and that made the cut.

Thatโ€™s awesome! Great song too.

Love the rovers!

Day 27: Your favorite children's song

When I saw this prompt this morning I had a pretty good idea of my top couple of choices. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go back and listen to them because they all are associated with singing in the car with my dad, who hasn't been in my life in a real way in more than 7 years, and no contact for a few years now. It's hard holding space for the happy memories of him that I have as a kid alongside the memories of him becoming a different person as I grew up. It's even harder to listen to music that he loved playing for us because music memory associations are so strong, like many others have clearly shown. But at the end of the day, god I love this song. We would listen to it when we left for the zoo and when we were leaving for the day, and sometimes we'd listen to it when we'd go to an amusement park because it was just as fun to sing then. The last time I've been to a zoo was with my him when I was still trying to repair our relationship, which i realized as I was sharing all of this. Leaning into the happy memories, though. (I also wasn't sure if I really wanted to be vulnerable about any of that)
