Day 6: A song that mentions the sky

Now this was on my mind because of yesterdays post in variations about not recording concerts and how I was a little sad that I hadn’t recorded Terri Nunn’s surprise appearance singing my favorite song at the Sisters show last spring, because some nerd hadn’t uploaded any video last time I’d checked. But low and behold, the nerds always come through. The audio isn’t great, the venue had some sound issues and Andrew had been extra grumpy during the show but whatever it was fucking Sisters live and a great show anyway.

The actual Sky reference is brief but it still counts

In the black sky, thunder sweeping under
Ground and over water, sounds of
Crying, weeping will not save your
Faith for bricks and dreams for mortar

Day 6: A song that mentions the sky

I’m actually in this video- in the choir singing backup for Elton. Very cool experience. He was an asshole though which was extremely disappointing.

Elton John - Answer in the Sky
So rad! Do you watch the video in slow motion to see if you see yourself? I know I would!

I know I’m late joining in here…

Day 6: A song that mentions the sky

A few of my favorite songs have been mentioned, but the one that first sprang to mind when I saw the prompt was “Circle Sky” by the Monkees. This song never appeared on the show, but was featured in their movie “Head,” as the boys performed it live on stage before a screaming crowd that attacks them at the end.

The song was written by Michael Nesmith, who wrote a lot of songs the Monkees recorded, even if he didn’t sing them himself. The lyrics to the song refer to sights seen while the Monkees were on tour.

In 1996, a reworked version of the song was recorded for the reunion album Justus, which has Davy Jones playing guitar on it! This also appeared in their reunion tv show,

It’s a fun song!
