Mature category

I've got several younger women, older man stories where the women are late twenties/early thirties, he's in his forties or fifties. My Ruby stories - she's in her forties, he's ten years older. My Dear Helen story, both protagonists remember when they were seventeen, but wait until their sixties. They've all done very well.

I think Mature is one of the best categories on Lit. The readers are adults, I've never yet encountered category police of any sort, they comment and engage, and they appreciate adults enjoying sex. It's the least "peanut gallery" category, I reckon.

But then, I'm with my peers, so keep that in mind. But you'll be fine, you're nearly an old lady yourself ;).
Getting older every day 🤣

If you're going with a same-age couple, I absolutely wouldn't go any lower than 40. You can skew younger with an age-difference story and and 18-year-old. The gap matters more than the upper age there. With same age, I think you're going to have readers with question marks over their heads if the characters aren't at least over that 40 mark.

That's not what the readership is primarily there for, but they're hardly hostile to it.

I have written a few stories in the Mature genre, and I think that genre encompasses both the older/younger story as well as the older/older story. I'm not fixated on any particular age, but 40 seems about right. By 40, most people have figured out who they are and they're probably not going to change much in how they think. To me, that's what "mature" really means.

An ancient crone, but you've still got your own teeth. Wait till you've got dentures. Take 'em out for a blow job, whoa!!
Gotta be someone’s kink. Not mine though.

I’m maybe an old soul, but the teeth are probably good for quite a few more decades 🤣.

My one mature story Until Death Does Us Part? featured a man and woman whose spouses were in a dementia unit. Ages not specified but clearly on the north side of seventy. It was fairly well received so not all mature stories need to feature a large age gap.

For mainstream appeal forties works for both he older man and woman. Early twenties for the younger partner, although there are some men who look for the barely legal female in stories.

Old enough to be their mother/father is a good indicator because that sets up the age taboo that the category thrives on.

Ah, well I hate to break it to you but there will be one guy involved.

Although I honestly haven't decided if he does anything more than watch yet.

Womp womp! Well, now I'm invested, and curious! I've only read fff cuckqueening before.

Well if you're interested in getting a preview read, let me know. I could probably use some fresh eyes on it at some point.

My mature stories have been an older guy - younger but not naive girl, with about 30 year age gap. They've done well.

My April Fools day story will also go into mature because the husband and wife are in their mid fifties, and she's dealing with the after effects of menopause.

fortyish is about right, in my mind, which is where I'm at nowadays. Old enough to have college aged kids if you started fairly young (by todays standards)

I think of a lot of mature stories as being, basically, incest without the squick.
Yup, mommy and daddy issues without it being your mom or dad.

I have noticed there's overlap in the taboo/mature readership.

Whether she's yours, or somone else's, its all about mom on this site.

It's even more that way, I think, for older man-younger woman stories, because for some the father-daughter dynamic is uncomfortable. I've written some of those stories and it's never entirely comfortable to do so. But I have no trouble with a story featuring a 50ish man and 20-something woman.

The double standard that there always seems to be an abuse of power or even rapey vibe in a father daughter story no matter how its written, but no one seems to mind a mother being the sexual instigator.
I fall into this in the sense, that in my father daughter pieces, the daughter is usually the aggressor to try to get rid of the creepy dad vibe, but I don't think it works all the time. Dad/daughter is not as popular as mom son, or even brother sister.

It's definitely a double standard. No doubt about it. As a father, I feel it. The mom-son thing is easy for me, because it's all made up. I have no personal experience with that. When I was in high school I sometimes had fantasies about female teachers, and I always thought the fantasy of older woman with young male student was hot, not creepy. That's just my own personal fantasy; it bears no relation to what actually happens in the real world.

So I’ve gone with a 48 yo widow and her 25 yo piano student - who has some clear ND tendencies. As to what happens, you’ll have to wait until Feb 12. It’s currently the last of my 750 word stories. Actually most likely definitively the last. Unless some muse mugs me.

Coming late to this discussion, but I'm pretty sure that "mature" is that wonderful spot between "flighty" and "wrinkly".

I’m always tagging “older men” and “younger women.” I blame my characters. 🙄
