Mature category

I don't think this is the right question. Some mature stories focus on people over a certain age, but for most mature stories the key is the age difference between two characters. The numbers are less important than the portrayal of two characters at different stages in their lives. One could write a story about an 18 year old high school senior and a 34 year old high school teacher that would be as legitimate and appealing a mature story as one between characters 30 and 55.

Did not know that. Assumed it was two, I dunno, fifty somethings.

Sorry 😞. No offense intended.
None taken! Just coming to terms with my own mortality. 'saul good. I'd have to agree with SimonDoom that it's more about age difference than anything else, even if his perception of "mature" possibly lends the description to 34 year olds. They're barely even adults!

I guess I’m just blind…

“May / December lust & love affairs.”

It can be two. The category description emphasizes sprint/autumn relationships, but a lot of authors post stories there with mature couples. I'm not sure the readers have a preference, I just know that they don't care much for what I gave them.

I’ve written May / December in my college stories. More interested in December / December. We’ll see.

Same. Although i think it can be just about a mature couple.

At least I hope so. Because I'm writing one about a 40-something lesbian couple allowing their 60-something year old neighbor to watch and maybe join in a little and I was planning on publishing in Mature.

Seems like my interpretation is acceptable.

I've got several younger women, older man stories where the women are late twenties/early thirties, he's in his forties or fifties. My Ruby stories - she's in her forties, he's ten years older. My Dear Helen story, both protagonists remember when they were seventeen, but wait until their sixties. They've all done very well.

I think Mature is one of the best categories on Lit. The readers are adults, I've never yet encountered category police of any sort, they comment and engage, and they appreciate adults enjoying sex. It's the least "peanut gallery" category, I reckon.

But then, I'm with my peers, so keep that in mind. But you'll be fine, you're nearly an old lady yourself ;).

Feel free to browse the published library while you wait for the new one lol.
I've read your White Room before! I enjoy the way you tell your stories but so far there's, to quote flight of the conchords

Too many dudes
With too many dicks
Too close to my shit
Too hard to meet chicks
I need better odds
More broads, less rods
I came to do battle
Scadaddle with the cattle prods

Most of my writings are in Mature, so I will answer this. I think ~40 is a very reasonable demarcation. This is the point in life when children of a 20-something marriage have left or are about to leave the nest, and the parents are on the verge of or have already rediscovered their sexual selves. Most importantly, this is while they are typically still attractive and vital. This rediscovered sexuality can be with each other, with age peers, with younger partners (midlife crisis!), older partners... all over the place. Plus, they have learned along the way that there has to be way more to intimate life than connubial vanilla sex: it is time to explore the interesting if not previously "forbidden" corners of their sexual psyches.

It is my impression that many if most characters portrayed on LitE are assumed to be in the 18-30 cohort. There is a lot of preoccupation with college students. Beyond that age group, things can get pretty interesting with... uh... maturity.

Good to know. I was wondering if age gap fit if the characters were not of an age I assumed (that I wont state here 🤭).

Ah, well I hate to break it to you but there will be one guy involved.

Although I honestly haven't decided if he does anything more than watch yet.

Nah. It's about the gap. There's no specific age.

If the age gap is the main point of the attraction between the two (or however many) MCs, then Mature is the right category. I've put couples into Mature where the eldest was only about 30; the stories have always done well, but then I take care to lay the groundwork.

The readers in that category tend to be very forgiving, though they do prefer an ending that, if not "happy," is at least "not sad." It's an excellent category in which I enjoy writing.
