You should see the series. (It's been shown even in Finland, btw.) There are places that only get truck deliveries when the lakes are frozen. I'd guess that the ground isn't of the type where you can easily make a road that can carry heavy trucks - ice does it much better.

Here most driving on ice happens for fun. Lots of lakes, but also the land is mostly pretty solid. My late FIL had plenty of prizes for rally on ice.

Let’s see, 30years - 52 Sundays per year, or 1560 for 30 years. At about 3 hours the service including the drive.

You have saved 4680 hours. This is a conservative number since I didn’t count Christmas, Good Friday and all the other divinely obligations.

Just curious, where did you choose to invest all that reclaimed time?
