Fantastic choice! This category could be repeated daily until the end of March and I wouldn't run out of material. Alone in a car, I will belt out pretty much anything on my Playlist. My wife married "for better or worse" and therefore is sometimes subjected to my singing and my kids don't get a choice. Just know I would spare all of you.
So while I can't imagine not belting out "Cause I'm Mr. Brightside" or "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" joining in when Hootie croons Let Her Cry or Hold My Hand or joining Elvis talking about Alison.
But I'm going to go with one today that I sing from start to finish every time I hear it

Day 2: A song you’ll always sing along to

For those that don't know, Iron Maiden's long time (but not original) vocalist, Bruce Dickinson, left the band after the tour for Fear of the Dark and began a solo project. He'd return to Maiden in 1999.
During that hiatus, he'd written this song with parts in mind for Judas Priest singer Rob Halford, and ex-Rainbow (and I believe at the time, current Black Sabbath singer) Ronnie James Dio. It would not come together though as Bruce's manager had pissed off Ronnie's manager (see also, his wife) and Bruce would end up recording the track on his own.
How epic would it have been?
Bruce Dickinson "A Tyranny of Souls"
Seems the right song for this crewDay 3: A song you love that most people haven’t heard from a popular band/artist

I'm not saying anything you say is incorrect but does he/they qualify as a popular artist/band? The song is popular but right now we are looking at a one hit wonder, imo.Every one heard "Somebody That You Used to Know", ad nauseum. However, while that song is catchy, the rest of the album is FATASTIC.
Smoke & Mirrors-Gotye
He's got 4 albums, maybe not a huge success, like U2 for example, but respectableI'm not saying anything you say is incorrect but does he/they qualify as a popular artist/band? The song is popular but right now we are looking at a one hit wonder, imo.
It seems many are choosing to liberally define "popular". When you start your selection "for those of you may not who may not know..." that's pretty much the opposite of popular. (Apologies if this offends, it's not the intent but if someone is going to be the asshole, who better than me?Day 3: A song you love that most people haven’t heard from a popular band/artist
He continued doing solo albums after rejoining. When he had the time I have no idea. He doesn't specify in his book, that I recall, when he originally wrote this, but there is a decent buffer between the reunion and Ronnie's passing. What’s funny is this song came out after he’d rejoined ironmaiden, so I didn’t realize it was written during the time he wasn’t with the band.
With a catalog like Sure Elton, there are bound to be subs that people have no clue about, or never was his.It seems many are choosing to liberally define "popular". I ruled out a song that I've been eager to use by Cracker because they aren't a household name.
I hope this question repeats every month because I think it's great to expose some obscure songs from great artists.
Love the blend of classical piano with rock and roll that this one brings
It's obviously open to the interpretation of the author but I think the definition of "popular" is pretty straightforward.I dunno, I think “popular” as a concept has changed a lot in the 21st century, the market’s much more fragmented. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to say that someone is popular but still not widely known. Unlikely to see bands with the reach of The Stones ever again.
I do agree that some people are interpreting “popular band/artist” in maybe a different way than you or I would. I have no issue with that though. I think the prompts are up for interpretation.I'm not saying anything you say is incorrect but does he/they qualify as a popular artist/band? The song is popular but right now we are looking at a one hit wonder, imo.
No apologies necessary on this one. I enjoy debates!Sorry. I certainly didn't mean to sidetrack the music with a debate.
Absolutely! Will add to the list. But you could also suggest that in the appropriate thread with a special link attached (cough cough,I hope this question repeats every month because I think it's great to expose some obscure songs from great artists.
Hopefully k.d. lang is well known enough for @Mr_bogey. This in MY interpretation.Day 3: A song you love that most people haven’t heard from a popular band/artist

"for those of you may not who may not know...” she made an album with the lesser known Neko Case and Laura Veirs and it’s magic.
