Thoughts on Mary Sue characters.

I loathed the casino planet and the arms dealers / manufacturers playing both sides; so on the nose, didn’t feel like SW. I guess that’s what Rian was going for.

That whole ridiculous subplot could have been left on the editing room floor and it would have been fine.

It felt like someone said, "hey, all these characters are standing around, give them something to do!"

Homoerotic crushes are perfectly valid in a sex positive porn site. Conservatives can check their egos at the door.

First person elected President of the United States on a pro-gay marriage platform was a Republican.
Check your politics and your stereotypes at the door.

Did not know this. Thx for the fact! I will move further discussion of this topic to the political boards if necessary.

Look, I know the power of words. And I’m a gay girl. But @AwkwardlySet and I always do shit like this. And it’s not like I was condemning him to eternal damnation for his deviant ways (yes I have been on the receiving end of that here).

Please accept my apology. I don’t know the environment or people here as well as I should. I’m smiling along now at the joke.

They're perfectly fine in real life, too. And as a transgender woman with many liberal and conservative friends, I humbly ask we keep politics out of discussions like this, pretty please? I'll even do the sugar on top thing if it helps. :)

As a woke member of a conservative family with a gay stepbrother and many open LBGT friends, I will humbly accede to your request. [asian style bow]

The homoerotic thing got me thinking about the "Miseducation of boys thread".
Any time men have a close, meaningful relationship in literature people these days come along and start throwing around "homoerotic" or otherwise claiming they must be gay.
A googleplex or three of electrons have been killed pushing the idea that Frodo and Samwise In LOTR are gay.
What message do we send to boys when we label every example of positive male friendship as gay?

Not a positive one. That’s for sure.

Same if we label every female friendship as lesbian.

Though if people want to go friends with benefits, there’s nothing wrong with that imho. :D

Who is "we?" I think it's mostly the boys themselves calling everything gay.

That is just woke activism at its worst. Woke movement is definitely a positive thing but it is heavily misused in today's society. Extreme activists, who are the loudest by default, are obsessed with rewriting all of the culture to fit into their own worldview. This is just one example and there are so many more. What they do not see is that this extreme approach is just giving bad rep to the movement, and THAT is definitely not a good thing. It just fuels the rise of the opposite, equally radical movement. Stupidity will kill us all one day.

I have written fanfic femslash, so I have to disagree. You do have some good points though.

Thx for sharing that article. People who have been victimized for lack of traditional masculinity like me don’t always properly recognize such things. ;)

You can actually find academic articles (although I use that term loosely for this stuff) pushing this theory.

Fanfic stuff is inherently different, with fanfic of ANY kind you are effectively saying "this is what I want the characters to do." Everyone knows you are taking liberties to some extent or the other with the characters.
As opposed to supposedly serious people arguing "this is what the original characters really are."

I prefer to say “this is what an alternate universe version of the characters might do”. But I take your point.
