Thoughts on Mary Sue characters.

Criticism towards Luke's character doesn't stand in my opinion and the comparison with Leia and Han doesn't make sense. Han is an adult who has seen the world and has been through a lot. He is a formed person. Leia is a princess and has no doubt seen much of the world, probably had an excellent education, and has been involved in politics since her teenage days. Luke is a teenager living in his shell, who besides the fact that he lives on a backwater planet, hasn't matured at all, and has seen nothing of the world. Boys mature slower in addition to all that, yada yada. But throughout the movies, he is the character that grows the most, going from an insecure teenager to a man who faces his demons and carries great responsibility on his back. And it is done gradually and convincingly.

I must say I don't get this logic where you praise the characters who at the beginning of the movie are already well-formed and defined and can't grow much during the course of the movie(s)
Han does grow in the sense of trust, of believing in something greater, and in the sense of love. Leia, as cool, as sweet, as brave, as smart, as lovable as she is, grows the least, by far.

After Vader boards Leia's ship, she escapes in an X-wing fighter with a faulty hyperdrive that takes her into a distant future in a galaxy far, far away. She crash-lands amidst icy peaks on a primitive planet on the brink of war and, seeking warmth, stumbles into what is clearly a drinking establishment. There a young humanoid woman with raven-dark hair is drinking spirits with brutal efficiency, to the delight and dismay of the locals.

"I need food, and a bed for the night," Leia says with little hope of being understood. The young woman's answering smile tells her that the correct words will not be necessary.

"That's a nice headpiece you've got there," Leia says. "Where'd you get it?"

"Staff of Ra," Marion says, admiring the newcomer's hair buns.

"Tell me more," the princess coos, slipping out of her white robe to reveal the royal treasures underneath.

Luke-crush is a common homoerotic state with some fan-bois.

Just sayin’

All of my trans characters have always had admirers. Whether they are big dicked girl givers or shriveled-up receivers, people seem to fawn all over them.
Interested in getting the Literotica take on this.

Do you have a character everyone in your stories goes apeshit for? They want the character as a friend enthusiastically and they can seemingly do no wrong. Perhaps a few characters will disrespect them, but they always regret it. Eventually if not instantly. Characters of the appropriate perversity swoon.

Do you like or dislike such characters? Why?

Characters of this nature are known as Mary Sues. They’re very common in fantasy, fanfic, and anime stories. I naturally have a few of them. Any celebrity I’ve used regularly and a few of my original characters too. I like them as long as they stay unpredictable a bit. You don’t expect a porn Mary Sue to not have certain kinks for example. But you have to respect them when they insist on enforcing their sexuality. This comes in handy quite a lot.

FWIW, I thought Finn was great in TFA as well. Then they rather lost their way with him.

I liked Poe as well. Oscar Isaac can act.

Exactly. They set up three good new characters, plus a potentially interesting villain in Kylo, and didn't know what to do with them. Finn in particular was squandered.

Have you seen Oscar Isaac in Ex Machina? It's like watching a different actor.

Yeah - depressing movie. But all three actors were amazing. Including General Hux.

There were many good characters in the Star Wars sequels. My issue was their plots were poorly written and very similar to the Legends fanfic novels out at the time Disney acquired Lucasfilm. Look up Jacen Solo sometime and see how much he resembles Kylo. It’s never good when they just pull out an unoriginal knockoff.

They started by rehashing ANH with TFA. Then Johnson took it all in a weird direction. Then JJ tried to bring it back to a ROTJ vibe and failed. I didn't hate TROS as much as some, but it was an unsatisfying ending.

The original trilogy isn’t perfect. But Lucas wrapped things up better.

I think that's the real problem. Whether you prefer Abrams or Johnson, they needed to get onto the same page. The movies essentially argue with each other, and it turns it into a mess. I'm a Last Jedi apologist (though of course it has its flaws), but in the end it doesn't fit with the others, and the whole trilogy just kind of got derailed.

In general I’d rather watch a Johnson movie than an Abrams. But it needed a more cohesive overall vision. I blame the producers, Abrams included.

I loathed the casino planet and the arms dealers / manufacturers playing both sides; so on the nose, didn’t feel like SW. I guess that’s what Rian was going for.

May be urban legend, but I've heard the side trip to the casino was supposed to be to grab Lando, but Carl Weathers wasn't available so they made a really bad audible. Probably the worst segment of film in the entire SWEU...

Carl Weathers may not have been available, but where was Billy Dee Williams?
