"If we're going to expel people from Congress just because they're charged with a crime ... that's a problem," Johnson said.
Republican leaders could try to avoid an expulsion vote by moving to table the measure or refer it to a committee.
Republicans wouldn’t expel Satan if he voted with the MAGA crowdThey just voted - he survived.
If anything epitomises the failure of the Republican party, it was this.![]()

WebNov 3, 2023 · Indicted Rep. George Santos says he plans to run for his seat in 2024 even if he’s expelled from Congress
Embattled Republican Rep. George Santos announced Thursday that he won't run for reelection in 2024, moments after the House Ethics Committee released a blistering report that found "substantial evidence" of wrongdoing.
The announcement from the freshman congressman from New York is a reversal of Santos' earlier insistence that he would run for reelection, even if expelled from Congress.
"I will remain steadfast in fighting for my rights and for defending my name in the face of adversity," Santos said in a lengthy statement on "X." "I am humbled yet again and reminded that I am human and I have flaws, but I will not stand by as I am stoned by those who have flaws themselves. I will continue on my mission to serve my constituents up until I am allowed. I will however NOT be seeking re-election for a second term in 2024 as my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time."
The committee said its investigation "revealed a complex web of unlawful activity involving Representative Santos' campaign, personal, and business finances."
"Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit. He blatantly stole from his campaign," the report states.
The report also found "substantial" evidence that Santos violated criminal laws, "some of which" are subject to pending charges. But it also alleges evidence of additional unlawful conduct, including regarding the information on federal election filings.
"He deceived donors into providing what they thought were contributions to his campaign but were in fact payments for his personal benefit," the report states
"He reported fictitious loans to his political committees to induce donors and party committees to make further contributions to his campaign--and then diverted more campaign money to himself as purported 'repayments' of those fictitious loans. He used his connections to high value donors and other political campaigns to obtain additional funds for himself through fraudulent or otherwise questionable business dealings.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...p&cvid=f58ac04d7c144db9bd0c3cd0fafbeafd&ei=22Investigators "believed that Representative Santos’ testimony would have low evidentiary value given his admitted practice of embellishment,” the subcommittee said in its report.
Sounds like most every Republican."Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit.
He blatantly stole from his campaign.
He deceived donors into providing what they thought were contributions to his campaign but were in fact payments for his personal benefit.
He reported fictitious loans to his political committees to induce donors and party committees to make further contributions to his campaign – and then diverted more campaign money to himself as purported “repayments” of those fictitious loans.
He used his connections to high value donors and other political campaigns to obtain additional funds for himself through fraudulent or otherwise questionable business dealings.
And he sustained all of this through a constant series of lies to his constituents, donors, and staff about his background and experience."
