I beg to differ. The Killers is always the correct answer. I think it pays proper homage to the greatness of the original. If you were going to go with a cover of that song, Indigo Girls cover was the obvious choice.
I was very tempted to have Bananarama as my pre teen song. I used to adore them!I beg to differ. The Killers is always the correct answer. I think it pays proper homage to the greatness of the original.
Since those didn't work for you, let's try again.

#morelikeasong I'm having a bad day and need to post another song today, can I have a hall pass? x
A great Buddy Holly cover! I've never heard of The Raveonettes before. I'll have to explore them and see what more they have done.#morelikeasong I'm having a bad day and need to post another song today, can I have a hall pass? x
This is one of my favorite songs, and I love what Trent Reznor said about the cover:
They are Danish (like you?) 50's/60s's stlye and their music is usually a bit more upbeat - definitely check them outA great Buddy Holly cover! I've never heard of The Raveonettes before. I'll have to explore them and see what more they have done.![]()

I love Johnny Cash and I love NIN. So, I'm sure this is a very unpopular opinion among fans, but I've never liked Johnny's version of this song. I wish I did. I appreciate the art behind his rendition and the video but listening to it is like nails on a chalkboard for me. :-(This is one of my favorite songs, and I love start Trent Reznor said about the cover:
"I'd known where I was when I wrote it. I know what I was thinking about. I know how I felt. Hearing it was like someone kissing your girlfriend. It felt invasive."
It was the moving video, though, that made it all fall into place for the Nine Inch Nails star: "It really, really made sense and I thought what a powerful piece of art.
Lol, you are allowed to not like a song! I love it when an artist covers a song in such a way that it is almost entirely new.I love Johnny Cash and I love NIN. Oh, I totally agree! I love when a covering artist can make a song their own. Which is why I really wanted to like the Cash version of Hurt, but it hurts my ears (pun intended) to listen to itLol, you are allowed to not like a song! A good example would be Jeff Buckley & Rufus Wainright's covers of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". To me, Buckley's is a soul wrenching ode to heartbreak, while Wainright's is an almost reverent hymn about how love/sex can be a religious experience. And yet, both are so different from the original as to be almost unrecognizable (were it not for the sacred chords, the 4th, the 5th, the minor fall & major lift...)
A not so great example is Sheryl Crow (love her!) Cover of Guns 'n Roses (love them more!) "Sweet Child O'Mine". It isn't much changed from the original, and it just lacks that something that would make it hers. It has no teeth!
I hear you. For me it depends on the song. There are some songs where I love the original so much, I prefer something I see as a tribute to it, like the Killer's version of Romeo and Juliet. It's almost like they were saying "Hey, don't forget about this masterpiece from 20 years ago."Lol, you are allowed to not like a song!
