Vacate Watch - Speaker Mike Johnson (R - LA)

What Bnf doesn't understand...Democrats shot themselves in the foot by voting McCarthy out. The Republicans will NEVER work on a bipartisan piece of legislation with the Democrats again. Ever. Such a stupid way to care about our country...let's vote out the Speaker. Get someone worse...and pretend it will magically make a difference in 2024. Oh...it will make a difference. A fucking landslide lost

Oh, I get it.
I’m sorry that my comment has allowed you to repeat this craziness for the hundredth time.
I’m sorry that weakness shown from democrats in the past leave you now suffering from a type of Stockholm syndrome. Fortunately, no democrat today has entertained your pleas to lead from behind.

The Republicans will NEVER work on a bipartisan piece of legislation with the Democrats again. Ever.

Once again, you imply that is a new development. The truth is, they haven't done that in 30 years. If you think that would have changed if the Dems had saved McCarthy, you're an even bigger fool than you've been playing throughout this thread. And the Dems did have a plan: elect Jeffries speaker.

I asked you what concessions you would expect dems to get for helping republicans. I don’t recall an answer coming that I saw in that thread.
Couldn't swear to it, but I think I recall Dribble saying they shouldn't have asked for anything whatsoever in return. Which, to be fair, is exactly what we should expect from the Republicans.

Lets not forget this, the Republicans now know that if there is another "vote to remove a speaker" by one person's motion, that it will be an other shit show trying to coalesce around another person. So the chances of the motion passing again are slim.

So when they do work with Democrats, will you come back and apologize for being wrong? Or will you just ignore it like your prediction of McCarthy being speaker again?

He's already working on a continuing budget.resolution with Democrat support.

They (the House) will never work with Democrats. Democrats destroyed that possibility. Ask the Republicans of the ex-Problem Solving Committee why. Or not.

I was right. Go back to my original posts. Or not.

I said the moderate Republicans would cave. If they didn't...then the only path forward was McCarthy.

Who caved?

Poor democraps, damned if they do damned if they don't. Repukes can not even govern themselves.

You're right. No matter how big the Republicans fuck up it's the democrats that get the blame for it. Like with Mccarthy, I don't get why they were blamed for Mccarthy getting ousted and all the shit show after when really all the blame should be on Matt Gaetz.

"republicans" blame Democrats because "republicans" are gaslighting scum.

Dribble blames Democrats because Dribble is an idiot.

*nods*

Mike Johnson forced a floor vote today to put every representative on record as to whether or not they favored raising the Social Security retirement age to 70. 152 Republicans voted to raise the retirement age to 70 for Gen X, Millenials and Gen-Z. "Fuck anyone not in my demographic" seems to be the order of teh day.

I strongly suggest YOU LOOK AT THE VOTE. Eight Republicans voted him out. How many Democrats joined in?
I believe none, democrats in lockstep voted Jeffries. I guess the result is more semantics, a plus vote for one is a negative vote on the other side of the equation.

Remember when President Biden, during his State of the Union address, got "republicans " to publicly declare that they wouldn’t touch Social Security or Medicare.

😎

Remember when some "republican" idiot screamed during that same State of the Union address that President Biden was a “LIAR!!!” for suggesting that SOME "republicans" did in fact want to touch Social Security and Medicare.

🙄

OMG. Say it again, but much slooooower.

Regardless of what party says what the facts are the facts;

“Today's Social Security and Medicare Trustees annual report makes it perfectly clear: The clock is ticking for us to act. “Social Security's old-age trust fund is now projected to reach insolvency one year sooner than last year's projection and Medicare will reach that point by 2031.Mar 31, 2023”

To agree to inaction is ludicrous regardless. By 2029 the interest on the 36 trillion dollar debt will hover around $1.2 trillion/ 3.2% of GDP. Sooner or later mandatory spending will be affected by the lack of discretionary funds.

https://taxfoundation.org/blog/medicare-social-security-reform-us-debt-deficits/

While current debt ceiling negotiations largely concern ways to restrain the discretionary parts of the budget, any serious proposal to tackle the emerging debt and deficit crisis must also address our largest mandatory spending programs: Social Security and Medicare. Together, these two programs will be responsible for nearly 80 percent of the deficit’s rise between 2023 and 2032, according to Congressional Budget Office (CBO)projections.

Social Security and traditional Medicare (Part A) are both funded by payroll taxes on a “pay-as-you-go basis.” That is, current payroll taxes fund today’s retirees. Unlike discretionary spending, which must be voted on by Congress every year during the appropriations process, Social Security and Medicare spending are mandated under current law. Mandatory spending in its entirety represents over two-thirds of the current U.S. budget.

FICA taxes and retirement age have to increase. Bumper slogans that SS and Medicare are off limits those politicians should be voted out of offer for displaying stupidity on steroids.

The sudden elevation of Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., to House speaker pushed his record's vetting to after his election. So it was only once he became second in line to the presidency that most people learned Johnson played a key role in the House’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, is virulently anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ Americans, and has promoted teaching the Bible as a history book in public schools.
Johnson’s closest allies are amplifying his extreme views, and recasting them as mainstream “truths” that are beyond challenge.

This week Johnson gave an interview to the Daily Signal, the news site of the Heritage Foundation, an agenda-setting hub for the right, and particularly the religious right.
It’s a central premise of the Bible that God invented civil government,” Johnson told Olohan, who added that, “like many Americans of faith, Johnson sees government as a ‘design of God’ and ‘a gift to mankind in a fallen society.’” If those jarring statements do not comport with your own understanding of the Bible, or of the constitutional separation of church and state, you are not alone.
there's more, including a religious studies professor who states johnson's language 'tracks with the language of Christian reconstructionism', a '70s movement that believes ' "civil government” should not do anything that interferes with (conservative Christian) families or churches or what they consider to be their inviolable right to impose their religious beliefs in the public square.'

  5. Jeffries said “there is clearly a cloud of illegitimacy hanging over 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue that’s growing bigger by the day.”
  6. Jeffries claimed Republicans “cheat[ed]” in the 2016 presidential election.
  7. Jeffries suggested multiple congressional seats were “stolen by rogue Republican operatives.”

So Donald Trump gets free speech rights, and Jefferies doesn't? Is that your point?

And yet Jeffries didn't marshall or summon an angry mob and direct them to fight like hell, or they would not have a country anymore. As such, he didn't sit idly by for three hours and let the mob pillage and crap all over the House of Representatives before asking them to be nice, and stop chanting "Hang Mike Pence!" Nor did he, I am sure, not attempt to subvert an election by fostering groups of illegitimate 'fake' electors to send fake electoral ballots to Congress.

There is a disconnect in your premise if you think this makes some justification. I'm not buying it.

First, not discussing Trump. I understand you believe the next massive asteroid to collide with Earth will be Trump’s fault.

The vile attacks against Johnson from the left is typical. The discussion was in reference to Johnson trying to overturn the 2020 elections. I pointed out what Johnson did was legal. Dems are just as guilty but we all know democrats lack self awareness.
