The 7th October attacks launched from Gaza have the whiff of a trap being laid for the IDF to over commit forces to an urban battle there in the south, before then being attacked significantly from the north. No doubt they’re well aware of this, but then they should have been aware of, or at least better prepared for the attacks in the first place.

I suspect time will show that the reason the Hamas attacks resulted in the disgusting atrocities we’ve all heard about is the presence in their ranks of some remnants of ISIS.

These are his words according to the article, “Last night, I asserted that this report indicated that babies were beheaded. This was an overstatement,” Levitz, who has written extensively against Israel's bombardment of Gaza, continued. “I should have said that the report established that babies were found headless, a fact that lends plausibility to claims of beheading, but which does not prove them.”

This reporter, clearly, was so overcome with grief that he was incapable of rational thought.😰 Perhaps his strange thinking attempted to separate that finding a body without a head was not as upsetting as a mental image of someone committing such a heinous act of barbarism.

I'm sorry he used such poor English language choices; it sounds much like attempts to explain the lack of majority party leadership regarding the Speaker of the House selection process.

'Just as Cruel as the Terrorists': Many Ordinary Palestinians Joined in Hamas's Atrocities Against Israel

TEL AVIV—As Hamas terrorists carried out a highly choreographed massacre in Israel on Oct. 7, they received a source of support that amplified the horror that took place that day. A mob of ordinary Palestinians spontaneously joined in what became the deadliest pogrom against Jews since the Holocaust, according to videos, eyewitness accounts, and the Israel Defense Forces.

Whereas the Hamas terrorists wore uniforms and carried military-grade weapons, the Gazans who followed them into the Jewish state were dressed as civilians and mostly unarmed, two officials from Israel's devastated Gaza border region said. Young men with knives, overweight dads, and at least one elderly man on crutches were among those who exploited Hamas's rampage to create a second wave of carnage that rivaled the barbarism of the professional terrorists.

The IDF declined to provide details about non-Hamas Gazans’s involvement in the Oct. 7 attack. But IDF spokesman Jonathan Conricus confirmed to the Washington Free Beacon that large numbers of Gazans who were not members of any terrorist group entered Israel and participated in the atrocities. "They did what you say they did," Conricus said.

The extent to which the Gazan public took part in Hamas's campaign of terror has yet to be fully understood even in Israel. But for the communities near Israel's Gaza border—home to many of the country's remaining peaceniks—firsthand knowledge of what their Palestinian neighbors did has already hardened into a new consensus: Coexistence is dead, and Gaza must be crushed.

It appears a solution in the near term is a pipedream.

Jumping to conclusions of an ongoing conflict seems to be your MO. Conflation is not helpful

Both Palestinians and Israelis have a right to live a safe and peaceful life. Any actions against that should be condemned.

As War Drums Pound, Study Finds Two-Thirds of Active Duty US Military Are Overweight or Obese

BY KATHLEEN J. ANDERSON

The American Security Project recently published its results on an analysis of the fitness level of the United States military. The results are hard to swallow.

The project found that over two-thirds of active-duty servicemembers are overweight or obese. To put that into a different perspective, the report states that only 31% of servicemembers are at a healthy weight.

That’s less than one-third of the military force that isn’t too fat for the uniform they wear. The report leans in on the obvious conclusion that our military’s expanding guts will inevitably harm our ability to defend ourselves.

The rest here: https://thepoliticalinsider.com/as-...ive-duty-us-military-are-overweight-or-obese/

That 31% are probably all that's left to face the enemy in ground combat. That would be 31% of the smallest military ground force we've had since Vietnam.

JUST IN: U.S. Strategic Posture Called ‘Insufficient’ for Future Threats

A report from the U.S. Strategic Posture Commission released this month found the United States’ current nuclear forces are not sufficient for future threats posed by China and Russia.

The nation is on the cusp of a “fundamentally different global setting for which we did not plan and we are not well prepared,” Madelyn Creedon, the commission chair of the Commission on the Strategic Posture of the United States, and Brookings Institute nonresident senior fellow, said during a Hudson Institute panel discussion Oct. 23.

Rebeccah Heinrichs, a commissioner and Hudson Institute senior fellow, called the difference between the last report in 2009 and the commission’s current findings “dramatic,” including how optimistic the commissioners were 14 years ago about the direction of the threats facing the United States.

“We are facing two nuclear peers and that is unprecedented,” Creedon said. “And so the nation must act now and with a sense of urgency. Steps need to be taken again now to enable both near and longer term decisions.”

All the more reason why we cannot afford a war at present.

LOL, as far as I recall the US is a member of NATO. So if someone shoots Nukes at the US, the US, UK and France will be returning fire, and the world is now over....

My post is about a situation that will have a bearing on the present situation in the Middle East vis a vis our ability to deploy sufficient combat power in the region. Of course, one has to be able to put two and two together to figure it out. So, you're in obvious trouble when it comes to strategic thinking.

Israeli Forces Launch Massive Raid Into the Gaza Strip

Matt Vespa | October 26, 2023 7:00 AM

Israeli forces conducted a massive raid inside the Gaza Strip this morning. It was more extensive than the previous small-scale ground operations in the wake of the vicious October 7 terror attacks committed by Hamas that left over 1,200 Israelis dead. The Jewish state has mobilized its military for a potentially prolonged conflict in Gaza that could spill into a two-front war with Lebanon. Hezbollah has vowed an all-out war if Israel invades Gaza.

That is going to happen. This raid, which included deploying Israeli armored units, destroyed various anti-tank missile posts, tunnels, and other parts of Hamas’ defensive infrastructure in northern Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formed a unity government, which has vowed to annihilate Hamas as a military and political entity. That is the only option right now to ensure Israel’s security situation is never subjected to the mayhem and carnage it endured on October 7.

Probably a reconnaissance in force.

No, your post is about our military preparedness. We aren't at war.

Democratic NY Lawmakers Arrested at Anti-Semitic Rally

Two New York lawmakers were arrested Friday at a Democratic Socialists of America rally where protesters flaunted their anti-Semitism and expressed support for Hamas terrorists who have slaughtered thousands of Israelis.

New York State senator Jabari Brisport and New York City councilwoman Shahana Hanif, both Democrats, were among 139 anti-Israel protesters who blocked traffic on Fifth Avenue during the "Cease Fire Now Rally for Gaza." Video from the scene shows that hundreds of protesters shouted, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," a chant that calls for the destruction of the Jewish state, the New York Post reported.

Brisport and Hanif aren't the only Democratic lawmakers to express hatred for Israel following Hamas's Oct. 7 terror attack on the country, the deadliest in Israeli history. Anti-Semitic congresswomen Cori Bush (D., Mo.), Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), and Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.) defended Hamas, with Tlaib saying the terrorist group's massacre was "resistance" to Israel's "apartheid system," the Washington Free Beacon reported. Tlaib, who has received donations from a Hamas fundraiser, refused to condemn or comment on Hamas's beheadings of Israeli babies.

Bush, Omar, and Tlaib, along with fellow "Squad" members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and Jamaal Bowman (D., N.Y.), are all members of the Democratic Socialists of America, which organized the Friday rally. The group also held an anti-Israel demonstration in New York City one day after news broke of Hamas's attack.

for supporting terrorism.

The point is that you want to blame Biden. As mentioned earlier, that is another thread. Guns have been going (and disappearing) to the middle east since the Reagan years. We train their soldiers by giving them guns. Hamas getting a hold of them isn't something new.
Biden is to blame for a lot of it, 7 billion worth to be specific. That is a lot of weapons and equipment.

Obama’s Mindset Still Drives U.S. Mideast Policy

Israeli settlements are legal - despite Obama's 2016 denial.

October 25, 2023 by Jeffrey Ludwig
Votes have consequences. President Obama directed the U.S. to abstain on a vote by the UN Security Council in December 2016 – just before leaving office – called Resolution 2334, which condemned Israel for its settlements In occupied territories. In previous votes on this matter, the U.S. vetoed said condemnation.

This abstention in effect branded Israel as a violator of international law at the expense of the Arab population living within its borders since the Israeli victories of 1967 and 1973 (the Yom Kippur war). The enemies of Israel have never tired of stating that Israeli Jewish settlements in occupied territories, especially in the south of Judea and Samaria, were expanding too rapidly in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Judea and Samaria were the original names of the land areas of present-day Israel – names that were abolished by the Romans in 70 AD. The Romans re-named the land area Palestine. That is why the residents of that area, prior to the recognition by the United Nations of Israeli statehood, were called Palestinian Jews and Palestinian Arabs.

Many uninformed persons today do not realize that the United Nations also authorized the creation of a state for the Palestinian Arabs at the same time the State of Israel was authorized, but the Palestinian Arabs, coached by the neighboring Arab countries, turned down the offer. Instead, the Arabs in the region, intent on destroying the new Jewish state and annihilating all the “Palestinian Jews” (now properly called Israelis), called upon all Arab residents of the newly formed state of Israel to flee so they could wipe out all of Israel. After the intended “wipe out,” those who fled could return to the homes and property they had left – as well as take over all the property of the Jews.

It was an all-or-nothing plan, and they ended up with nothing. The fledgling state of Israel that was completely outmatched in terms of equipment nevertheless won the war in 1948, and the Arabs who had fled from Israel now found themselves living in camps and unable to occupy the homes they had left in Israel (“Eretz Yisrael”). Some observers, like this writer, believe that not only was that victory a David vs. Goliath-type of event, but that it was the fulfillment of the prophecy found in Ezekiel Chapter 37 – wherein the prophet is taken to the Valley of Dry Bones and the bones are resurrected by the power of Almighty God, thus ushering in the soon-to-be return of Christ.

It doesn't belong in this thread. Either post updates/discussion about the Hamas/Israeli conflict or post in another thread
It speaks directly to our true ability to influence the Hamas/Israeli war militarily.
