Go correct all of these republican leaders, past and present about your particular knit picking about the term democracy versus republic. There's literally thousands upon thousands of examples of conservatives referring to America as a democracy.

And it's still a fucking dumbass debate.

It’s deflecting. This person wants to argue the finer points of a representative democracy but can’t discern if the language used by trump could’ve contributed to J6.

HUNKY-DORY

First off we're a republic not a democracy, we are a representative form of government guided by democratic principles. We do things different. Our process is difficult by design. Pub Reps are voting on principle. There are some deep divides in the party one being spending and budgets. Matt Gaetz is a jerk but he's parroting what many believe deep down. I personally disagree with how some republicans are behaving but they will come together and when they do the republican party will be stronger. Some rule changes will happen and we'll be better for it.
The U.S. combines elements of both a republic and a democracy, as it is a representative democracy where elected officials make decisions based on the people's will. So, your ascription is merely hair-splitting; as such, it raises some hackles and needs to be more helpful in supporting your main point. 'Difficult by design' doesn't mean we should allow it to unfold without changing it when it reaches a dangerous state of paralysis.

The more important point is your correct observations about people like Gaetz et al. behaving selfishly without regard for 'making decisions based upon the will of the people.'
Agreed. We are back to square one. You, dmallord, previously outlined 2 remedies. I think the 2nd, with the president using Emergency powers would be most expedient but I’ve expressed my concerns on taking what I think are unnecessary and drastic measures when the simplest solution is for republicans to nominate a freakin speaker. Country over party seemingly was buried with McCain. Now we have up to 9 Republican hopefuls willing to split their slim majority votes even more.
Yes - we are back at square one. And strangely, you and icanhelp1 'agree' that the simplest solution is to nominate a freakin' speaker.

This is my added two cents:

When a political party is paralyzed over choosing a new House Speaker, and the country faces urgent funding decisions and potential conflicts with foreign countries, the stakes are more significant than proceeding with the usual means of chaotic decision-making. This situation warrants decisive action to replace a representative democracy government's sluggish, painful rules process. The need for effective governance and decision-making is paramount. America cannot stand by and appear weak. It is incumbent upon citizens to cry out for firm, decisive action.

As I see it, the Republican Party is not taking how the country and the world perceive its ineptness and apparent weakness in governance as a serious matter. Republicans are insularly focused on pettiness within their fractured alliances. It is time for the American citizenry to call for the Republican Party to rise to the occasion and make competent decisions or relinquish the reins of leadership in the House. Lead or get out of the way.

The urgency of funding decisions and the potential for international conflict placed immediate pressure on Republicans to resolve their internal paralysis. The national interest and security concerns should have become their top priorities. However, the Republicans responded by adjourning, going home, and putting up flawed candidates, knowing they were disfavored within their party and the Democratic Party as well. Those candidates are doubtful to garner 217 votes. Republican actions on the Speaker selection methods are the very definition of incompetency, or at least, were an act of political insanity.

The Republican leadership failed to consider the impact of its internal divisiveness on the country's national security and defense. Funding is of paramount importance. Rule changes should have been made to ensure the House could address these critical issues immediately. Republicans failed and continue to fail over more than two weeks with no clear resolution nor even an attempt at a bipartisan solution while war rages. This evening, the nightly news mentioned the ominous rumbling of direct attacks on American soldiers.

The selection of a new House Speaker has become a national embarrassment. Republicans are focused on going this alone. This is not how a republic democracy works. It has to consider all citizens’ needs – and become bipartisan for the sake of all Americans. Even more crucial, this new leader’s morals and ability to reason and compromise will be central in guiding the party's stance on funding, foreign policy, and national security matters. Resolving the leadership crisis must be a top priority of the Republican Party – select someone amenable to acceptance by both political divides – or vacate the right by majority rule and allow leadership from a minority party.

While addressing the immediate national issues is essential, the party must also balance these concerns with the need for internal cohesion. Rule changes must promote unity and maintain the party's ability to address pressing national matters effectively. The passage of funds is the immediate priority, and filling the vacancies of the military leadership posts is right behind it. Some deep soul-searching and scholarly questioning must hammer out a new set of rules to ensure this never happens again. With 100% certainty, Republicans cannot, nor will they seemingly take such action until they are threatened with removal from office in the next elections. Citizens must demand this – loudly, often, and at the ballot boxes. They must show they shall not tolerate petty politicians shoving their views in the face of citizens in times of national crisis.

In situations involving national security and potential conflict, reaching across the aisle and seeking bipartisan cooperation is more critical than ever. Rule changes must take this into account.

Emergency crisis management must implement measures to ensure that essential funding decisions can be made in case either house is stymied from passing such legislation. These plans must ensure that the country can respond to international challenges without fail and with firm resolve in the face of a crisis.

The public, the press, and international observers will closely watch the party's handling of the situation. Demonstrating effective governance and crisis management is critical for maintaining public trust and global stability. Failure to elect a Speaker will mark the Republican Party as flawed, undeserving of renewed leadership positions. All American eyes are watching your clown show. Get it right, Republicans, or face the consequences at the ballot boxes.

What principle? Hating government? I guess that is a principle of sorts.
Hard to govern when your goal is to destroy.

But I’m sure we can find a way to blame Hunter for the inability to elect a speaker…. Again.

Can't is one of those here we can't take seriously any more. the first few hundred posts .. well .. maybe, but after that it's all been Orange Man worship blather and became just another BB. Iggy works best for those.

That's a load of crap! You are a liar. Your problem is anyone that has an opposing point of view is a waterboy for Trump. I believe in comprehensive border security and you and your posse turn it into a Trumptard wall lover. You call Trump a compulsive liar but won't admit your own hero has spewed some of the biggest.

I agree with Ja, you're nothing more than an opportunity to generate a laugh. You're one of the most hypocritical posters on Lit. But I don't agree with Ja's suggestion to put you on ignore. That would take away the fun, the laughter and watching you turn pretzels when you have try and defend your indefensible posts.

Carry on!!

two cents worth? i call that value for money *nods*

Well, Emmer‘s the deal. Now that Emmer chatted with Trump can he expect support from democrats?

Maybe if a hundred or so Dems vote present we can get back to regular order.

Like I’ve said - Tepid tea with a sugar pinch of false equivalence blame for the D’s.

Unless Emmer gives any guarantees to Democrats, there is no reason they will vote for him. My expectation is they will continue to fully support Jeffries.

Republicans caused this mess with rule changes they signed onto. The true answer to the problem is not to elect Republicans who are the party of chaos.

Why should Democrats bail out Republicans?

After all, with people like you making claims, such as the partial list out of ten pages of hits on your rants on Democrats. I can see why they might just want the Republicans ( who think and act just like you) to have some self-reflection and LEARN how to govern.

And vice versa, I don't have any use for democrats either, they're just plain corrupt to the core.
Well you do now...see above in RED....
People can see right through majority party tyranny. The original intent was to establish a 9/11 type commission with equal number of reps selected by each party, 10 total by each party, two from each majority and minority leaders for a total of (8), the majority would select the chair and the minority would appoint the vice chair. These reps were supposed to be selected from outside of government. The house agreed to the ground rules and both sides in the house agreed subpoenas would be issued with bi-partisan agreement. It failed in the senate.

McCarthy withdrew when Pelosi determined the democrats would appoint the chair for the commission and the chair would have the final authority over the selection process for reps. All reps were congressional members which did not follow the composition of the 9/11 commission where the members would be outside of government. The commission's scope did not include the political violence by left wing groups from the year before
Pelosi, ran the Democrats, and with a margin similar to today's house, and she got things done, even if you didn't like it.
All democrats vote in lockstep like the mindless bots they are. Party loyalty above the needs of their constituents.
And the Republicans are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.....
Today’s democrats are the woke crowd, they preach inclusivity unless you disagree with their pedigree then you’re exclude, possibly tarred and feathered then left for dead. The pendulum is slowly swinging back to rational thought.
Woke, maybe if the Republicans in the house "woke" up and smelt the coffee, they learn to Govern.
Can’t do any worse then democrats. :D
Really???? I beg to differ....
Republicans and conservatives don’t want to tear down the system ; democrats do!
Well who's currently tearing down the House? Republicans or Democrats?
Because that’s what democrats do. They don’t fix problems, they just throw money at it, raise taxes and walk away hoping it’ll fix itself.
Well that and they also can elect a House leader....
Like the senate democrats were incapable of prepping a bill or a resolution way back in January. McCarthy has very little latitude on this bill, it’s strongly supported by all house republicans. Apparently Comshaw didn’t watch the speaker nomination and seating debacle. Biden needs to realize he’s not just dealing with the speaker. Schumer is not on solid ground, he’s procrastinating for fear of exposing how weak he is as the Senate leader.
Ahh a much better side the Senate, there the Republicans can actually be effective.
Throw the bitch in the DC gulag, give democrats a taste of their own medicine.
lol and who would this be aimed at??? Yes, your such a nice person.
I see this as a win for republicans.
You still think its a win........lol Yah I'll bet you do!!
Unlike the party lemmings of the democratic party there are republicans out there with enough courage to stand on principle. The party line is not acceptable. Need to find a viable speaker that has the balls to stand on principle who will say what all republicans believe in their heart. Control spending, fix the border, shitcan the green energy nut bags, cut the debt.
Yes that seems to be more of challenge than you first thought....Ball cutting will have to wait!!
I think the republican party will come back stronger and more united on conservative values.
Think??? My guess is you're on your hands and knees praying!!!!

Once they ask...we should. Because we helped facilitate this clusterfuck knowing how dysfunctional the Republicans are and still sided with 8 traitors.

Emmer won't get the votes. There is only one path out of this. Same as I have been saying for 3 weeks. McCarthy. It will take a dozen Democrats to do the right thing

Once they ask...we should. Because we helped facilitate this clusterfuck knowing how dysfunctional the Republicans are and still sided with 8 traitors.
We have voted for Jeffries.

There is no reason to vote otherwise.

Your answer is to capitulate to Republicans who are literally behaving like children, with the expectation that it benefits anyone.

It does not

Emmer won't get the votes. There is only one path out of this. Same as I have been saying for 3 weeks. McCarthy. It will take a dozen Democrats to do the right thing
If McCarthy provides guarantees, then it will happen. Until then, it will not.

You really continue to suck at politics and continue to support Republicans in their endeavors.

Once they ask...we should.
It's my understanding they did offer to help but McCarthy turned them down.
Because we helped facilitate this clusterfuck knowing how dysfunctional the Republicans are and still sided with 8 traitors.
Why they haven't kick those 8 out of the party is beyond me...
Emmer won't get the votes. There is only one path out of this. Same as I have been saying for 3 weeks. McCarthy. It will take a dozen Democrats to do the right thing
This round should be interesting. They must know if they don't elect him, they will have to get the Democrats support.

To resolve this only a handful of republicans need to vote for Jeffries. Unfortunately the GOP would rather embrace dysfunction than cooperation.
Why should they? If Democrats want to cooperate...have them help elect McCarthy. In no way should Jeffries ever carry the gavel. He is part of why we are here

My theory is that once the deadline for those appropriation bills or anotherCR looms close, we'll see the end of the shit show.
