A nation does not have to be a signatory to the Geneva Accords to be convicted of war crimes. See also: Nuremberg Trials.

With the extreme right-wing Netanyahu at Israel's helm, it is likely that he will respond in a grossly inappropriate way, similar to what G.W. Bush did following 911.

Bush squandered international support and sympathy by invading Iraq. It's likely that Netanyahu will try to compensate for his gross incompetence in protecting the rural areas that were attacked by Hamas by leveling most of urban Gaza.

Everything and anything that happens in Gaza at this stage is on Hamas. They bear the sole responsibility for any civilian deaths that result from this Israeli defensive action. We know the Democrats, having funded the terrorists for years, want to protect their Jew-hating investments, but the law of war is on the side of Israel. Oh BTW:

Kacsmaryk said that the AFL’s "recent production of records shows that the Government knew its economic support fund (ESF) funding in the West Bank and Gaza was benefiting Palestinian terrorists, thereby ‘increasing the risk of terrorist attacks against the Plaintiffs and others similarly situated.’ They aver that the Government's ‘admission that its activities in the West Bank and Gaza benefit Hamas suggests, with reasonable particularity, the possible existence of other facts, currently hidden, establishing traceability.’ These reasons, in concert with Hamas's recent attack on Israel that killed fourteen Americans and resulted in others being held hostage, provide a sufficient basis for Plaintiff's Request," the order read.

Hamas has not made an effort to do anything regarding citizens that I've seen. I'd be interested in any source that shows otherwise.

You're talking about an area that is almost 140 square miles in size with 2.3 million people. Think of the battle of Fallujah an Iraqi town of about 4 square miles with a similar density to Gaza. It was the bloodiest battle of the Iraq war. It took over six weeks to complete.

In this case, yes. It's voluntary and not a core part of the Geneva Convention. Countries can choose to sign on or not. Strikes me as useless and a waste of time if it's optional, but there you are. A bit like the one on mines.

To close out my point regarding war crimes - I'm not saying that signing a document or not is what matters. Saying Hamas has committed atrocities here is warranted and obvious. Doing so while saying that Israel has been squeaky clean retracts from the effectiveness of that statement

We should be warning and expecting all parties of war to take extra care. I do believe Israel is making a good faith effort in doing that and that Hamas is actually taking action detrimental to all involved

Nobody fighting a war is squeaky clean.

And yeah, we can warn, but what are we going to do about it if they're not? Spank Hamas? Because so far THEY are the gross offenders. LOL. We've done fuck all so far. And it has to be effective and painful to be useful. And what about Russia? Just as bad as Hamas, if not worse.
