First Ever Crime and Punishment Story Event - Official Support Thread

I tried to finish a second one, but it has gone well, and I'm nowhere near happy with what I have.
Ha, that's a shame. If your first story was any indication of your second story it would have been more than worth publishing. I've only read four thus far: Yours, KeithD, Melissa baby, Notalenthack and the stories have great MC development. That about does it for most of us reading, All four stories did that well: easy, EASY 5's. Oh well - Next Year maybe.

Does anyone know why the story list pages provide so little information? I get why they wouldn't want to show current ratings during a contest but they don't even show the summary.

Worse, they don't show the category. Wonder how many down votes come because of readers irritated opening a contest story in a category they consider toxic.

It's purely a link page, like a table of contents.

Right, but why was the decision made to have merely a list of links? (Of course, I realize the answer might be "laurel works in mysterious ways".)
Probably too much programming hassle to call up lower hierarchy fields. I suspect the list legacy goes back to the late nineties, when Literotica started up and the first contests took place.

Well a contest entry link page is basically hand made, no? It lists title and author. No reason why it can't list title, author, category ... or title, author, category, description.

It has also always baffled me why an author's profile's submissions list page doesn't include word counts. "This looks interesting. If it's 12k words I might read it, but if it's 50k I don't have time right now." So I click it, see that it's 69k and close the tab. The author gets a hit and wonders why there's no feedback. No slight on the work at all, I just don't have the time right now, maybe I'll come back on the weekend ... if I remember.

I've done one other event that was put together by Chloe Tzang, 'One night in ____'. She put a lot of effort into organizing the event and if we had a problem, she was first contact. The list of writers, category, title all came out on the day the stories were published. A huge amount of work. I'm guessing the format for this event is the standard default setting for events. And a bit easier to manage i.e., Final submit date to final listing is six, seven days - Makes it easier to round up and categorize etc. but publishing before the event launch is different.

I do try to write well, I don't always write all that well, though.

Hm, reporting my story as being listed in the wrong contest hasn't done anything - I suppose I'd better look up how to edit it.

May try editing the description line while I'm at it. I'm terrible at figuring out what will entice readers. Suggestions? Image Nine Point Four

Have you tried sending a PM to Laurel? That's the best way to get publication issues resolved

In the story tags on the last page, your story has "crime and punishment 2023" as one of the tags. That's how they're going to compile the list for the anthology page, so your story should be listed in the Crime and Punishment anthology list. So rather than edit anything right now, maybe the best option is the always-first option: 'do nothing'...

I've PM'd Laurel, but thanks.

I think my story - Perving on My Virgin Cousins - finished last.

It was about an 18-year-old student who is a slacker and always getting into some sort of trouble, and after getting arrested and cautioned by the police one night is banished by his long-suffering parents to another city to live with his fundamentalist/evangelical Christian aunt, uncle and cousins, pretty identical twin girls also 18. The young man successfully turns around his life, behaving himself, working and studying hard and generally being a better and more mature person, but can't resist secretly perving on his cousins in their most private moments.

The IT readers didn't like the story - and said so both in comments and by votes - and after a week it has a rating that varies from just below 3 to just over 3.

Do I get a wooden spoon for my troubles?

There is no 'last', nor 'first'. It's a challenge -TO- us to write Crime and Punishment stories. At least that's how I'm seeing it. You contributed to the literature of the subject, as did many of us here, and no matter how the readers vote on it, you met the challenge. So keep on keepin' on...

We're the Millers went live a few hours ago. It's in Novels and Novellas, because the primary theme is crime... and punishment... so not really in line with any of the erotic categories here. So I'm not expecting enormous view numbers... who am I kidding, my views top out just north of 40K for my most-viewed.

So, here's hoping that the readers who do find it feels it fits the theme of the event.
