Its virtually impossible for him to win the general election. All polls show him stuck at 46% max. Voting for him means that Biden or any Democrat will win. Even if you love his policies, why not vote for someone who is close to Trump policy wise?

Sadly, I agree, I would just HOPE! that anyone else can be as a hard ass as Trump was. People hated him mainly because he talked like an asshole at times. But he let the world know he was in charge. If they counted as zero, the north would have even more population and more representatives in the house.

If they counted as a full person, then the south would have a much larger proportion.

If a compromise it should have been 0.5 if “fair” but since the south got the benefits of all compromises….

I don’t know why it is so hard for you to understand that the goal was to hurt the South and slavery IN THE LONG RUN and counting the slaves as 3/5ths of a person for the purpose of representation completely cripples slave states in the future because they have to choose between having less slaves and more white citizens(eventually destroying slavery as an industry)or freeing their slaves to get full representation from their former slaves(destroying slavery), or continuing to import slaves and falling way behind the North in terms of power in the federal government eventually leading to the South being crippled economically and being forced to secede to survive and eventually no longer being able to afford slavery(which is the option the South took).

Ending slavery was a good thing, so if that was the original intent of the 3/5 compromise, hooray for the founders!

They didn’t want the South to immediately secede so counting slaves as 0 was not an option(and it would be hypocritical on the North’s part), and counting slaves as 1 would literally incentivize the South to expand slavery to get more representation so that wasn’t an option, and counting slaves as a half would mean that the negotiations were stuck at square one likely leading to the South seceding, and thus the 3/5ths compromise happened and that sealed slavery’s doom no matter what.

It's a pity the slave owners in the south didn't realize they were doomed sooner and spare country the agony of the Civil War.

Slavery wasn’t the only reason that the Civil War happened, it likely would have happened even if the South decided to get rid of slavery to get full representation(although the war wouldn’t have been as long and bloody if that happened).

The cultural divide between the North and the South was very deep, it was basically like 2 different European countries in that time period with a tentative alliance rather than 2 halves of the same country.

The south was quite explicit about why they were seceding. What issues other than slavery do you think were severe enough to break the union?

Southerners were extremely laid back(a lot of the plantation owners were northerners living in the south btw), extremely rough when conflict arose, much poorer, much less educated and just generally looked down upon by the quickly industrializing North where life was moving much much faster.

The clash between rural and urban in the U.S. is exacerbated by the fact that people living in rural areas have political power exceeding their numbers, but I don't foresee the cities starting a civil war over it.
