Sex & Shenanigans

One possibilty I've read, and I have no idea how true or even provable it is, is that the religious customs might have come out of concerns for disease. It's not so much that God decided, "hey, I'm gonna let them eat chicken, but not shellfish," but that maybe a priest got sick after eating a shrimp salad, or maybe there was a disease that affected certain livestock, and it then became a cultural assumption that those animals would make you sick if you ate them. Once it was part of the culture, then when the oral traditions were finally cobbled together across the centuries, some traditions probably included something along the lines of, "God made these animals for eating, but these ones aren't," and that's what made it into the Torah. So it's possible that the prohibitions started as simple health advice (rightly or wrongly), and then morphed into a religious instruction later.
Isn’t it funny though that it’s all based on books?? Like BOOKS?!!!

That makes sense! I never had to worry about this stuff until I started having to read every label. It's crazy what they sneak pork/lard into!
NMK for breakfast
Man, you're missing out! 🥲
I don't know what we're talking about. I just saw cheesecake. That always wins.
Dorothy, Blanche, Sophia and Rose approve.

Ive heard that too.

did some religious areas not raise pigs? How did the jews survive without bacon and spam?

Home and church. :(

I’m grateful my parents let me choose

OK, I'm not making this up, and I'm not making fun of anyone.
There was a woman in my church (May God rest her soul) who was this little old lady, very religious, VERY. Deep believer. She worried me at first because she kind of seemed "fundamentalist" and we are really not.

And this new person shows up. And the only way to describe this individual is "Klinger." I'm not kidding, I'm not making fun. Dark complexion, thick dark curly hair, dresses, skirts (quite short), daisy duke shorts sometimes with shirts showing off the stomach. I'm not sure what pronouns the person would have used, maybe "they?"

One of them amazing things I've ever seen was. They became fast friends, and watching them sit together every week, sharing a hymnal, (I swear I'm not making this up) is one of the most inspiring acts of acceptance and love I've ever seen. I admit, I wasn't comfortable with "Klinger" although I try to treat everyone with respect and dignity.

I've read this too. If you look at the dietary laws as a whole, they do seem to follow this.

If more people would treat others with compassion and acceptance regardless of their individual religious beliefs… I think the world would be a better place.

OK, folks, I got a crap ton of stuff to do today.
I gotta head out.

If anyone could see their way to giving me a five rating on the story I posted last week (Tau Ceti), I'd appreciate it! (Yes, I'm shamelessly self promoting. I learned some years ago, it's something I don't do well professionally, so I'm practicing here...LMAO....and...maybe, before I retire, I'll get good at it there too!).

My actual moral compass is Mr. Rogers/Superman. Like straight up kindness and good deeds and pep talks and stuff. There are songs since I'm a music dude, but no puppets as of yet. 😎

Everything else beyond the moral compass is kinda punk rock/porn star.

And I fucking love cheesecake. ❤️

how the fuck do you go from Mr Rogers and Superman to punk rock and porn star? Mr Rogers and Superman are so boring (ok except Smallville Superman with red kryptonite. Clark/Superman without inhibitions is totally hot) Mr Rogers and punk do not go together (though mr rogers and porn star might, no idea what he was into)

I’m rating it 5⭐️ even though it made me kind of sad …. But the story itself was so good. I want this to be a longer story that is less “porn” and more story.
