There's a lot of truth to that. It's a very selfish and irresponsible perspective. The reality is that they are not alone in society and that their personal beliefs are putting others at risk. But as long as it doesn't effect him then it's not a problem.

I have a hunch he'd think differently if his grandchild was killed in a mass shooting. It's a shame that that is what it takes to get people to care - to have them or theirs be grievously harmed before they wake up.

BTW, for those following along without being a phuckwad, John Lott is an internationally renowned subject matter expert on gun violence. He seriously knows his shit and if he says "X and Y" then it's true because his statistics aren't skewed or manipulated and he doesn't lie about the results.
