Official Support Thread - 5th Annual 750 Word Project

Oh, ok. I wondered if we'd see a score ranking for the stories that qualified, or some such. But I guess it's difficult as stories submitted on Feb 1 will likely have very different reads/votes/favs than stories submitted on Feb 28th.

Anyway, threw one in on the mix. Hopefully it'll get published in time.
This isn't a "comparison to anyone else" exercise. The only qualifying element is the body of the story being 750 words. The only angle of anyone else doing it to you is the comradery of doing it together. The "reward" is what you yourself take away from it: exercising of both your creative and writing discipline skills, a bit more promotion (listed on another list put in front of selecting readers), and greater exposure of your list to readers. My 750-word view counts are, quite quickly, more than double my other stories. It's common sense that someone will do a quick read quicker than an long one. And the favoriting of both my stories and me as an author go up quicker than usual during the 750-word exercise. This year I've had the added benefit of being able to put a "Flashing" anthology together from these for the marketplace.

You get out of these the benefit that thinking about the benefit of the exercise beyond ratings and "wins over others" you are able to contemplate.

You are unlikely to get H-level ratings, because the voting/awarding system at Literotica conditions readers/authors to think that the "goodness" quotient of stories goes up by the added wordage in the story. It doesn't.

Monthly honors have disappeared. I guess the site has grown too big for Laurel and her small team to keep up with that.
I don’t think that’s the case. I think it’s just that they’re VERY delayed. This has happened before.

Thanks for the clarification. How are winners and nominees selected? Exactly how much glory is up for grabs?
There are no winners or nominees, it's just a collection of short stories.

Laurel has just fixed my goof - my fourth part is in the next run of releases (mid- afternoon, my time).

Edit: it's live: Brooke Works at the Hardware Store Part 4

Mine is up! I present to you my first NonHuman story: The Bigger They Are

Tags: dragon, pussy, pussy power, virgin sacrifice, girl power, smashing patriarchy, anarchy in the fairyland, queef

I’ve had one in pending status for a full week now; anyone know if that’s just because they’re running a little slower than usual, or should I re-do something?

Send a quick, polite message to Laurel and tell her that your story, including the title, is for the 750 word project and it's hung up in pending
Click on the envelope in the upper right hand corner to start the message

Thank you all for your contributions!
Wow! What an amazing outpouring of stories! I fully take responsibility for slowing down the posting process by overwhelming T.P.T.B.* with story after story all month long. I hope everyone who wanted to participate was able to get a story (or four) posted. I had a couple of stories write themselves, and I had a couple that fought against the 750 limit. I also learned that Interracial is a minefield to compete with LW. I'll post my final story scores tomorrow.

The 750 word page just posted. I counted 260 stories 👏. I can’t imagine that isn’t some kind of informal record. Good job Duleigh, I’m sure it was tough leading the charge on those short little legs!

I managed to sneak one in at the end. Maybe I should start now for next year so I do better timing-wise.

Only got the one in, but it's led to a few reads of some of my other stories. I note that a comment complaining about too many words has mysteriously disappeared...

I've read a dozen or so and they're a fun way to see if you might like an author's style.

…they're a fun way to see if you might like an author's style.

😄 If that’s the case, I’m not doing myself any favors, this will be my new lowest rated story ever 😄

There doesn’t seem to be many readers in NonHuman, but they all unanimously hate my story.

My older 750 worders got quite 4 times the weekly votes the past couple weeks than normal. (Before anyone gets excited, the 4 extra votes were, by definition, 4 times more than my typical 1 weekly vote per week on my old 750 word stories).

I did get one out though. My writing burnout can be treated with 750 word stories.

CONGRATULATIONS!
That was incredible!
I expected a bit over 150 entries considering all the "Nah, I ain't doin' this" feedback I got at the beginning. I counted 267 entries. Thank you all for making the first writers exercise I've ever wrangled a smokin' success. Smoking = the smoking heap we left Laurel's Post-It machine in. We threw about 10 entries a day at her in the midst of a posting slow-down. (We should claim credit for causing the slow-down :D)

How did your votes fare? Combined my 5 entries averaged 4.52, that includes my lowest at 4.23. (Note to @FifthEstate that was my interracial entry, I think we had a side wager on that) I honestly believe that if I hadn't used that category, it would have scored much, much higher, I've written many stories featuring the couple in that story and those stories score incredibly higher without that category label.

In the end, we did exactly what I hoped we would accomplish, we kicked a few muses back into action, we stirred up a whole herd of plot bunnies, we gave a lot of new writers a chance to step up and try their chops at the keyboard, we got a few old timers to dust off their lonely, forgotten keyboards, but most importantly I saw a lot of encouragement in the posts here. That's what I was most interested in.

Again, thank you all very much, I'm truly humbled and amazed at the energy and enthusiasm you all showed.

I'll gladly second the Congrats to the authors who submitted entries. I've been reading myself to a state of blindness this morning. There are some REALLY impressive writers on Lit and entries in this challenge. Nice work, everyone! I'm struggling to read them all, but not sure I'll get to every single one. I'm trying! Just want you all to know, I'm appreciative and impressed by what I've read so far.

Thanks for organizing!

For any data freaks out there, I have the list of stories broken down by title and author on .xlsx and .csv if you'd like a copy shoot me a dm. It looks like our most prolific authors are:

@KeithD - 14 entries
@Yesok1 - 9 entries
@Bn2f - 7 entries

I liked it!

Mines also my lowest rated - weird Brit writing complex characters *and* there's no sex in it? Just as well there's that option to rate without even scrolling! - but as I said, some people have gone on to find the other stories with the same characters.
