Official Support Thread - 5th Annual 750 Word Project

Well I've had a crack at this. Interesting challenge as I try to keep my chapters in the 3k-5k realm. So far the scores are (from what I understand) the usual "Lower than average", but honestly writing it made me happy, I think it's fine for what it is, and anyone who doesn't like it, well there's a few thousand other stories on the site they can go and enjoy instead!

"From Sales to Sold" - a non-con/reluctance story about a very bad day at the office.

After having a story in the event in each of the last three years, I decided to skip this year's event...until an idea hit me like a brick. I wrote it last night and ended up at 1,350 words. Editing this morning has cut that to 855 words, but it's that last 10 to 15% that's the really hard part, carving chunks of meat out of the story after you've already trimmed all of the fat.

If I can't get it to where I like it in 750 words, I may go back to the long version and give it a full treatment as a regular story.

Two, five, ten... apparently the sky's the limit with this crew. By all means, submit, submit, submit!
Ok nice, thanks! Just sent in a second, may well end up doing a third!

It's really nice to be able to get a whole story done in a day, and it's a really fun way of using up old ideas that I know I'll never have time to turn into full length submissions.

Don’t take this wrong, but I’m not sure everyonesavoyeur or Stormbringer would agree with that. Both write primarily IR/cuck stories and have over 6k followers.
I'm not taking it wrong; at least, I don't think I am. I've been on here a whopping four months and a couple of days, and I should have 300 followers by now, right?

And, "People aren't all that enamored with Interracial Cuckolding stories," should have read, "People aren't all that enamored with my Interracial Cuckolding stories."
;)

I’ll PM you to discuss.

I've been publishing stories since 2006 and I just cracked 260 followers

With all the red H’s and a mix of chaptered and stand-alone stories in your library, I think that makes you a bit of an enigma. Categories maybe?

I don't worry about it, most of my stories were published in the past 10 months, if I get as little as one more follower a day I'll be caught up with you... in a few centuries.

Just submitted mine for publishing now, that was a really fun challenge! I liked it so much I immediately want to follow up on a good idea i have for a second one - does anyone know if we're allowed to submit two in the same event?
This challenge is great because if you haven't written in awhile, it is a low pressure and fun way to get started again.

I think I've seen more than one submission from an author in last year's challenge. I submitted one and and thinking about writing a second one

I've been sat here thinking... "Maybe I could do a part 2", and with only 750 words the major slog is all in the last 20 words...

No limit. Some folk have submitted several stories already.

I haven't published anything in Lit in years, but I think I want to participate in this and start again... Just need to find an idea.

I'm up to four, the latest upload surprising me with a score within an smidge of 4 for most of the day. Then reality set in. 😏
Oh yeah, watching that slide from close to 4 would be harder if I hadn't been warned about it.

Having seen the first comment I suspect any more of those might be a spicy ride as well! 😂

Welcome to Day 6️⃣

To celebrate I submitted my #3 in third person perspective in a category I've never tried before. I've wrote in that category with #1 but in the end I chose Erotic Couplings because setting it in Mature would have ruined the surprise

My wee contribution went live this morning, also in third person which I'm trying to write in more. It's in Non-Consent/Reluctance, though I guess it could have gone in humor. For the record, I deeply apologize for the phrase "boinked building backstory" :)

My entries for the previous two years somehow reached "Hot". This time... eh, I don't think so.

At 772 words, I've cut out all of the humor (it was originally going to be in Humor & Satire), most of the love (First Time was second choice), and so much of the detail (Letters and Transcripts was that fallback) that I'd have trouble rating asking readers to waste their (admittedly limited) time reading it. Unless I have new inspiration and a major change of heart, I'm going to revert to the original draft and eventually go in a different direction with it. Looking forward to reading some of the completed works by others later this month.

#5 submitted today and I got my first "it should be longer" comment overnight.
Better than what I got which was "This makes no sense, it seems like something you dreamed up while masturbating"....At 6.5k views and over 3.5 stars it can't be THAT bad....right? Ah well, whatever, everyone's a critic! 😃

At least that comment speaks to content rather than to an explained reason for delivered length.

The kicker to these things is to give them a complete story arc--a dilemma, a struggle with that dilemma, and a resolution. If you aren't a writer who thinks about the complete arc of a story before you start writing, you will be prone to spend too much wordage on the background/dilemma part and fail to deliver a full resolution. But then, an aspect of story telling that a good many Lit. readers don't understand is that a legitimate story ending can include a failure to resolve the dilemma or to provide a "happy ever after" resolution.

My one story is doing well. It's at 4.3ish and had three positive comments. Overall I'm pleased with it. I think my rating has been boasted because it's tied to a previous work and it's IT. A fun experience though.

You're right I suppose. Anyone really commmenting a 750 word challenge is too short is sort of missing the point in a way. At 750 words I feel like the default setting almost has to be either a good setup for further imagination, or space for a part 2....

This is what I've done with a couple of 'em. The setup is for the reader to fill-in the too-obvious blanks left at the end.
